Northern Mockingbird

I heard Mockingbird singing.

He is back.
He is claiming his territory.
Welcome home.
I missed you.

Goodbye September

Goodbye September
and your warm afternoons.
The flowers are fading
the leaves are beginning to fall.
Goodbye.
Farewell.
Thank you!

In the morning

In the morning
the shadows are long.

I tread softly.
I look as I step.
The wonders of nature
amaze me.

The breeze is from the south.
Thundershowers are in the forecast for tomorrow.

Butterfly break

About once an hour
I have to go outside.

The Dainty Sulphur is so tiny
not even an inch across.

Little Yellow is a little
larger, 1 1/2 inches,
from wing tip to wing tip.

The Orange Sulphur
is about 2 inches across.

The Clouded Sulphur is medium sized,
measuring 2 1/2 inches.

I watched the Praying Mantis catch a bee for her lunch
and a skipper for dessert.
I did take pictures.
We have lots of bees and skippers.

Packing up the Clowns

I spent the afternoon
packing up September's
decorations.
The circus comes to town in September.
We took the children when
they were young.
I love the circus.
I love the clowns.
There are other motifs of September,
apples, wheat, praying mantis to name a few.
It is the clowns I will miss.
Time to clean the house.
Time to decorate for October.

Harvest Moon Rise

Make a wish on the Harvest Moon.

Stay

Stay
just a little bit longer...

A Small Harvest

After the dew had dried
I cut some basil,

some Rosemary,

and some lavender.

A small harvest basket of herbs
for the kitchen table.

Let's Dance

I want to see you dance again....

Harvest Moon Day

Happy Harvest Moon Day!

My, oh my, what a wonderful day.
Plenty of sunshine
headin' my way.
Zip-a-dee-doo dah
Zip-a-dee-da!

Hello

Remember me?

I am the lady that puts all the food out.

Don't be scared.
I will not harm you.
We can be friends.

After the rain

The temperatures dropped
after the morning rain.
I put on a sweater and went outside.

I looked for Mockingbird.
I have not seen him for over a month.
I miss him.

I was able to sit on the deck again.
I had my afternoon tea with the birds.
No butterflies today to distract me.

They are not sure of me.

With the cooler temperatures of Autumn
I can spend time with them.

We can get to know each other again.

Flash cards

Monarch
Viceroy
Viceroy
Monarch
I think I've got it.
By George I've got it.

Until the next time I am fooled.

Common Checkered-Skipper

I emptied my weeding basket.

The Common Checkered-Skipper flew in.
I took a break from weeding.
The Common Checkered-Skipper is tiny, only 3/4 of an inch from wing tip to wing tip.
I have not seen this butterfly since last November.

The One Eyed Oak

The One Eyed Oak
looked at me.

I was called to his ivy bed.
Acorns fell.
I listened for a story.
"It is time to gather.
It is time to harvest.
It is time for nectar.

Stories are for cooler days."

Oh.

Back to work.
