that have gone before me.
I am wearing orange and black today.
I am studying color.
I am sitting with the marigolds.
My activity today is gathering seeds.
Those that went before me gathered seeds.
They held the hope for another spring.
Happy October!

Thank you, as always, for your lovely photos. It is beautiful how even in the simple act of gathering, you take time to respect the ancients... If only more people took the time to contemplate the significance of things, I should think we would all be the more peaceful for it.
Seeds of hope ...
Respecting the ancients is a wonderful thing to do......you make me see things more clearly Sherry....
The colours in your post are so vivid.......they cheer and warm my heart....
How is Kitty....
Dear Mimi,
Peace does begin inside each of us.
I respect those that have come before me...all of life that has come before me...not just the humans. I am grateful for the lessons they have taught me.
The gathering of seed is an ancient tradition.
Thank you for celebrating with me. October should be lots of fun!

Dear Wren,
Seeds are a delight to behold!
As I work in my October gardens I am planning for next spring and next summer. I see what I need to plant for next October.
Always hope.

Dear Cheryl,
Thank you. Happy October.
The Little Kitten did not survive last night.
She was a sweet little one.
Tiny, tiny thing.
We tried but she needed her mommy.
I walked in the cemetery this afternoon.
Life is precious.
I was gifted with Little Kitten's few hours on earth.
Namaste,

Hi Sherry,
I love all of your fall/halloween colors in these photos. The big fly is gorgeous and the Duskywing is doing its part to look spooky. Tee hee...
I wonder what the ancients would think of all of these photos and the communications as they are now.
Hi Sherry,
Your photos are so bright and colorful. Perhaps someday I will find time to take a photography class (when the kids are a bit older)!
I just wanted to tell you how inspirational your photos and writings are to me. You make me think, and you make me appreciate the flowers and butterflies and bugs and birds.
I always enjoy visiting your blog and it just plain makes me feel good!
Thanks!

Dear Lisa,
My October house is filled with oranges and blacks and purples and yellows and more blacks and lots of green and reds and more oranges. I added midnight blue into the decorating. I already can see gray would be nice too.
I think the ancients would be shocked!! But I bet they would love the digital age.
It is a fun month....

Dear Laura,
I am so glad you enjoy your time here. The photo essays are suppose to help people see the beauty all around them...I live in the city and these are the creatures that come to my backyard. I bet similiar beauty is in your back yard.
So glad to know the pictures are doing their job!!
I learned photography by reading a book and taking lots of pictures!
I suggest you take pictures of what you love. You cannot go wrong.
Namaste,
Sherry
Your photos are absolutely stunning. I'd love to wear orange but it's not my color.
Dear Mary,
Maybe a black outfit with a wee bit of orange trim is more for you. I also like dark brown with an orange accent. I am looking at nature for my color combos.
Mother Nature does the best with color.
Happy October.

Gathering seeds; honouring the ancients; vibrant orange flowers; reminds me of a chant I learned years ago:
All the Earth is sacred
Every step we take
All the Air is sacred
Every breath we take
Unite the People
We are One
U-oooooo-nite the People
We are one!
Welcome to October and its rich glorious tones that you will no doubt celebrate in your photography.
Dear Wendy,
I love this chant!
We are one!
Thank you for sharing this...
I shall chant today.
Namaste,
We are one,
Sherry
Dear Saucy,
The colors of Autumn are always so vivid. I hope to be able to snap a few pictures.
I am thinking of walking on a few different trails in search of October's bugs!

Such vivid colors in these photos, Sherry, and the insects are amazing, as always. I find, too, that working in the soil is a way of connecting with the past--my ancestors all worked the land.
(Interesting--the word verification for me is "edure," but I thought at first it said "endure." How appropriate when thinking about the ancients and nature!)
October colors are so vibrant! These photos are truly inspiring and your words enlightening and lovely!
Dear Rose,
Both of my Grandmothers were gardeners. I did not know them very well. When I am in the gardens saving my seeds I feel connected to them.
The soil comnnects us to those who work in the dirt today.
I feel your spirit as I weed and gather.
Thank you for your good energy. The earth needs lots of caring folks.
Hugs,
Sherry
Dear Sue,
Thank you.
Happy October.
Sherry
