Alpaca Show

I have been looking forward to the Alpaca Show
for months!

This is the first time it has been held in my city.
It was my first show.
My friend's alpaca farm was one of the sponcers.

I was concered when it began to sleet this morning
that it would be too icy to go.

My husband was very nice to take me.
When I walked through the pen area
I forgot all about the ice and snow.
I was in Alpaca heaven.
Each one is different and charming.
I listened to their little sounds.
I let them smell me and remembered they are head shy.
I watched as they were judged for their fleece.

This dame seemed to know she won first place!

I talked with different breeders.
I felt lots of fiber.
The fleece that was the softest came from the Paco-Vicunas.
A true golden fleece.

I talked with the breeders from Hickory Ridge Farms.
They have Paco-Vicuna fiber for sale.
They invited me to visit their farm and these rare animals.

There are Alpaca Farms all over North America.

Some are bed and breakfast.

Learning about the alpaca is fun.

The show was delightful!

It is snowing and the drifts of daffodils are covered in white.

I saw branches in the pines broken and on the ground.

Tomorrow I will bundle up and walk the gardens.

Tonight I will stay warm and think of Alpacas.

Alpacas are so darned cute! And their fiber is so spectacular! Are you going to raise some? They would be great for anyone that does spinning. Glad you had a good time!

They have funny sweet little faces for such large looking animals. Maybe they are all wool??? Sounds like you had a fun outing. I hope the snow and ice didn't damage much in your garden. The wind is still howling here.

Dear Sherry....the alpacas are so pretty, such soft little faces....they are delightful.
The farm near me was on the television on Friday....the alpaca pair have a baby....I will go and see her......I am still trying to take a photograph for you but the farmer is not very accommodating....,,,you never know he may change his mind...

I am so glad you were able to get to the show.......I know you have fallen for these beautiful animals.....

Hope there is not too much damage to your gardens.....sending you warm wishes.......

How beautiful these animals are. When we travel we get excited when we see alpacas and llamas! It's hard to get a good picture when you're traveling! lol

Oh my goodness! They are just darling. I'd want one of my very own! (Just what I need another animal around here!)

I'm so glad that you had such a lovely time.

:)

Love, Vikki

Dear Scienceguy288,
The wool is so silky and soft.
I bought a 100% alpaca hat and a pair of gloves. Once I am knitting I want to knit alpaca wool. I do love it.
I agree, "Thank you ancient Inca!"

Dear Dowhatyoulove,
The Alpacas just stole my heart. I am not going to raise any. I live in the city and do not have space for them. I shall enjoy them at my friend's farm and at the shows.
I can buy rovings for spinning and yarn for knitting...
I saw an alpaca coat that was fantastic!

Dear Lisa,
They are all wool! I watched the judges stick their entire hand into the alpaca's fleece. The Paco-Vicuna fleece is amazing...soft and silky and heavenly.
I may have to get some and make a scarf.....could be my knitting goal.
The ice and snow did so much damage. This morning I am very, very sad.
I will feed the birds soon and take photographs....So very sad!
I feel so very, very sad.

Dear Cheryl,
Having the Alpacas so close is exciting. I do hope you get to see the baby! I think their little ways are charming. Protecting baby is a good idea....when Jeanett's dames give birth I will ask if I can take photographs of the babies. Maybe I could even hold one!!!
Thank goodness I have Alpaca chatter this morning or I would be in tears...the snow has taken my spring!
So very sad...

These have to be some of the most adorable animals on earth! There used to be a commercial on TV advertising alpacas to start your own farm. My Arizona daughter was captivated by them and kept trying to persuade her dad to buy some, but never quite got him convinced:)

I'll be waiting to see what you make from your alpaca wool, Sherry.

By the way, we have some sleet and snow here this morning, too; hopefully, it's just March giving its last roar.

I'll show this post to my daughter Molly. Ever since she was a little girl (16 now!) she's had a love for alpacas.

Oh Sherry, how wonderful! Those little alpaca's look so sweet, so cuddly! There is something about them......

Your hubby is a such a dear to take you to the show. It was not to be missed.
Hope your garden survives.

Sherry, I love their cute little beards (maybe I have a thing for beards, if you remember the photos of my DH and Annie, who looks just like her daddy!). The local alpaca farmer has the yarn spun by animal, so you can buy a hank (is that the right word?) of Rosie, or Spice.

Dear Karen,
The alpaca is so sweet too!
Timid and darling!

Dear Lavender Dreamer,
We also enjoy the alpaca farms when we travel. We both call out all the different animals we see when we are on a raod trip. I used to keep a list just for fun!
I think the alpacas are so cute!

Dear Vikki,
I know what you mean, I also think I need Alpacas! My daughter said you must have at least two or they will die from lonliness.
So cute and soft...

Dear Rose,
Alpacas are wonderful and very expensive! Show Alpacas cost in the $10,000 range! I often wonder how much fiber it would take to break even! Our daughter also is wild for the Alpaca but has no space to raise them. I watched a young man show his alpaca. He was so proud of his animal.
I do hope your snow didn't cause any damage. I heard we could have another round this coming weekend. I am so done with snow!

Dear Lynne,
I talked with many breeders and lots of them started out boarding their Alpacas on alpaca farms. One lady told me how she collected her alpacas and finally had to buy a farm for them!
Once in love always in love....
I am hoping to satisfy my Alpaca love by knitting the yarn and wearing alpaca. I have a hat, purse, gloves and scarf...I am on my way.
Maybe there is an Alpaca show in your area? It would be a fun outing for your daughter.

Dear Wendy,
I am so happy my husband said, "We are going!"
The weather was so terrible I would have stayed home.
It was delightful! Actuall kept me from becoming too depressed by the ice and snow!

Dear Judy,
I love the idea of buying the yarn by the name of the animal! My friend sells her yarn and I will ask her if it is by name...great idea. She has a beautiful brown male named Leprechaun...I would love a sweater.
