The sunflower fields are beautiful.
I sat in a field one time and had a marvelous experience with a sunflower.
The Tumbleweeds also are divine!
I would always gather a few for my gardens when we traveled through "Tumbleweed Country."
I made a cd sampler of all the different renditions of "Tumbling Tumbleweeds". As soon as we were in striking distance of tumbleweeds I would put it on. My husband never minded. He just whistled along. My friend moved to western Kansas just as they were beginning a seven year drought,(Conserative Christians only have seven year droughts). By the middle of July she was spent! The wind and the sun and the dry just about did her in.
Glad you are singing.
I did get the cooler temps, just a spot of rain but I think more is coming.
I have been thinking of you.
"Hot town summer in the city, back of my neck getting dirty and gritty."
That's me!
SherryQhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02473455565144414399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27765182.post-19573179915329613122007-07-09T21:22:00.000-05:002007-07-09T21:22:00.000-05:00Dear Kate,My favorite of all the herbs is lavender...Dear Kate,
My favorite of all the herbs is lavender. I use it for so many things! I guess I am a Lavender Lady!
I grow basil too. I make my pesto for winter with it. It is a great companion plant for tomatoes. I grow lots of different varieties. I like herbs and so do the butterflies. Nice way to add scent to the gardens and the house and savory for the table.
A herb fair is so nice.
Years ago I made herb wreaths from my garden herbs. I sold them and gave them as gifts. I grew large thyme back then and used it to form the wreath. I had a large herb garden. Lots of fun in the sun!
SherryQhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02473455565144414399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27765182.post-978309348397679972007-07-09T21:13:00.000-05:002007-07-09T21:13:00.000-05:00Dear Mari-Nanci,That is a Black Swallowtail caterp...Dear Mari-Nanci,
That is a Black Swallowtail caterpillar. There are two on this stand of parsley. I was checking the parsley to see if there were any!
They are pretty. Even more beautiful when they are Black Swallowtails!
I planted more parsley seed today too. The parsley is a bi-annual so every year I plant seeds so I have a steady suppy for the Black Swallowtails to lay eggs on.
I have Fennel too for them.
It is called a host plant.
I love hostessing Black Swallowtails!
SherryQhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02473455565144414399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27765182.post-47344489909094306472007-07-09T21:08:00.000-05:002007-07-09T21:08:00.000-05:00Dear Deb,I saw Paul Simon on PBS just recently.
