I took my list of host and nectar plants
I need for the butterflies
to the native garden center.
I only bought what was on my list.
I ordered three Paw-paw bushes for the Zebra Swallowtails.
I brought home six butterfly milkweed plants. The Zebras nectar on the flowers and the Monarchs lay their eggs on the leaves!
It is a perennial. It will take the place of the perennial sunflowers.
I think once I plant the Paw-paws I will have the Zebras covered
I have never seen a Zebra Swallowtail.
Yay! Can't wait to see the pictures when they start arriving!

I was so tickled, I sat a pot of Hysop in the old strawberry patch and immediately bees and butterflies came! The Dusky realy enjoyed the hysop. I had never seen one of them.
I have learned the purslane I weed out is host for the Sphinx Moth. I think I shall have purslane ground coverin many of the beds!
Not only will the yard be a haven for birds and buttterflies but the more I learn about the natives the less work I have.
Gives me more time to take pictures!

ReplyDeleteAt first when I saw this bee I thought it was a strange white headed variety!
These little flowers would draw the bees. They were planted by the door of the Native Center. I think bee was tipsy!
I laughed too.
