I have been encouraging the Cardinals.
They can hold their own with the House Sparrows.
There is plenty of seed for everyone.They can hold their own with the House Sparrows.
No need to be concerned.

I do not think they are paying any attention to me.
The cardinals are so beautiful, we do not have anything like them here. They look so exotic. Always a pleasure to read your posts.

ReplyDeleteWe used to see those little brown sparrows everywhere, but for some reason we never see them now. I heard they have decreased in numbers in New Zealand also, & no one is quite sure why.

ReplyDeleteYes, the chain that the Chickadee was on is the chain for a copper bird feeder. The Cardinal is a tad big for using it as a stopping spot! I have seen the Nuthtaches on the chain too.

ReplyDeleteThe House Sparrows are in huge numbers in my backyard. They are very aggressive birds and will take over all the cavity nesting spots. They are kind of "mean" to other birds. I think the large population of Cardinals this year is actually helping keep the House Sparrows in check. I do see the Doves and Sparrows being caught by the Hawks too.
Hard to say why their population has diminished in Australia and New Zealand. I heard their numbers were down in England as well. Maybe they are susceptible to the avian flu.
