ABC Wednesday

The sheets dried in the sun.
I watched as shadow stripes told of the time.

I snipped some sage.
I will stir it into my other seasonings.
It smells like November to me.

Seed pods are opening,
silently sending their treasures to fertile soils.

I save some to scatter next Spring.

The late season warmth brought out
a Snout butterfly to sun.

A Sharp-shinned Hawk searches the backyard.
He hunts for Sparrows.

Each month I have a program of study.

Sometimes I study the Solar System

I always study the Stars.

We are in the days of Sagittarius.

In the Summer I see Scorpio rise low on the horizon.

There are many signs and symbols in my world.

I have been seeing spots.

My friend gave me a wonderful book.

In the afternoons I sit and spin.

In the evenings I knit homespun yarn into slippers.

I started a pair of slippers for my sister.
I am knitting homespun black alpaca.
It is very soft.
I hope the slippers will keep her snug
while she recuperates from surgery.

I will be taking care of her.
I will sing her silly songs.

Happy ABC Wednesday.
Today we celebrate the letter S.
Join in the spirit.

  6. Great S words. And those slippers look really snug. I've given up on sweaters and socks and stuff, preferring mice and paintpots...

  9. Sherry, I love to hang clothes out on the line, too, and smell that freshness on them as you bring them inside. I think sun-dried sheets help you sleep better.

An interesting collection of S's; it must be so soothing to sit and spin, and I bet those slippers are so soft! Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your sister.

We are both early this week, Sherry; it must be that we are getting ready for Thursday--wishing you a very happy Thanksgiving!

  10. How sneaky! To slip in the letter "S" without us realizing it at firtt. I love all your pics. Sheets drying on the line smell so good when you take them in and make up your bed.

I too have been knitting in the evenings. I am making some leg warmers for my granddaughter. Well, those are finished and now I'm knitting some matching ones for her cabbage patch doll.

I love looking at your spinning wheel. I remember finding one in an antique store last summer and thinking of you.

Happy spinning. Happy knitting. Happy November (I love the smell of sage).

  12. I've never seen anything like the Snout Butterfly. Very interesting.

Your sister will appreciate those slippers for sure. I'm impressed that you know how to use a spinning wheel -- I've only seen them for decoration.

    Happy Thanksgiving to you!

  15. I do hope all goes well for your sister, Sherry. I'm sure she will find the lovely slippers comforting especially with the amount of love you will have put into their making.

You never disappoint, this is another wonderfully creative post and my very favourite has to be the dog. I was instantly transported back to very early childhood when my favourite pre-school television programme was The Woodentops, which was about a family living on a small farm, all the characters were actually wooden string puppets and there was a dog just like yours called....Spotty Dog! As a dog lover from that day to this it was my very favourite character...thank you for bringing back such memories Sherry.

All of your photos are beautiful again, I do hope the Hawk doesn't catch too many of your little Sparrows!
