I never seem to ever be able to gather Cone Flower seed.
The Gold Finches get to them long before I do.

What a colorful image Sherry. You are quite right about the little rascals eating all the seed. That is ok by me becasue they are the resaon I have them anyway.

I used to grow the coneflowers for the butterflies and birds. Now I am growing them for me too. I am hoping to enlarge my cone flower bed as the years go by. I guess I will need to buy seed!
I do enjoy the bugs and the birds and the blogs!

Dear Lisa,
It is okay with me too. I just need to plant more. Actually all I need are the leaves. I think I will gather and dry them after the birds get the seeds or before frost. I have been looking about for another area to grow Coneflowers. I gave up one small veggie bed and now I am thinking of tucking them into spots here and there. So many butterflies like them too. Next year I think I will Winter Sow a few flats for spring planting. They do take two years to bloom. I am on a coneflower campaign!

There are a small flock of Gold Finches, maybe a dozen, that come and go to the finch feeder and the bird baths.
I like to photograph them with flowers when ever I can! They also like the sunflowers when they are in seed.
I like your Green Finches too. The finch family has very colorful birds in it.

I watched yesterday while this Gold Finch plucked petals off the coneflower. He only did it to the one flower.

I wouldn't mind if this beautiful male goldfinch would take all my coneflower seeds, as long as it stayed in my garden. But unfortunately it doesn't ;-) !!

I watched this Gold Finch in the sunflowers too.
I know the seeds are very far from ripe. Maybe he was getting ittle bugs.
The Gold Finches are so pretty in their summeer dress. We have a small flock, maybe a dozen birds, that come and go.
