New Lavender Moon

The lavender is just beginning to bloom.

I began my lavender harvest this morning after
the dew was dry and while the lavender oil was still high in the bud.

I will harvest each morning until Full Moon.

I use every part of the Lavender harvest.
The leaves and stems are dried along with the flowers.

Today I added lavender to my lemon water.
I do not need sugar.
Lavender is all the sweet I need.

Thanks for alerting me to the blooming of the lavender! You are ahead of us here in the season. Also appreciated the hint of the best time to harvest.
I like being kept aware of the stages of the moon, too, and all your names for new moon!
Blessings on your day. . .carol

I ought to take a picture of my pitaful looking lavender Sherry. Yours is so pretty. Do you make lavender wands? I just love to do that. They smell so good and make such good gifts.

Dear Deb,
Thank you! This is my favorite New Moon. I love my lavender so very much that to be once again harvesting is healing.
Oh Deb, thank you for being so supportive...it has been a rough year. Back to harvesting and allowing the lavender to heal my weary spirit.

Dear Carol,
Harvesting lavender is best when the buds are just showing color, before it blooms. It is also best early in the morning after the dew dries but before the sun has had a chance to warm the plants.
Part of my plnats are in full sun and do bloom a wee bit earlier than the rest the rest are in light shade. I have started a new lavender hedge this year. I hope it will replace my old hedge. As I harvest the old hedge this year I am planning on digging out the roots and redoing the raised beds the hedge grows in.
Being back harvesting lavender is what I needed to really feel alive!
I am allowing my lavender to work her magic. Hopefully I will have lots of stems and enough to get me through the winter.
Happy Lavender New Moon.
It is fun.

Dear Lisa,
I used to make lavender wands...they were fun to do.
I store my sweaters in lavender. I put dried lavender buds in a silk scarf and tie it up, easy and pretty and reuseable!
Lavender likes poor soil and a white mulch. I use sea shells.
I have made all sorts of things withthe lavender. I have done dried lavender arranged boxes and wreaths and arrangements of all sorts.
I do love working with it.

Great photos! I'm new to close up photographing insects, etc. Did you use a macro lens?

Dear Anonymous,
Welcome to the world of photographing bugs! It is fun. I do not use a macro lens although it is on my wish list. I use the zoom on my camera. I have to back up to get close!
Hope that helps.
