Off the beaten path,
tucked into a neighborhood I am unfamiliar with,
my husband found a wild space.
The Daughters of the Revolution raised a marker here.
The city is planting the small park in native prairie grasses and wild flowers.
All over my city public spaces are being planted with native plants.
There is a group that is reclaiming these spaces for the butterflies and the bees.
We stopped to watch the Black Swallowtails

These are like minded people I would like to meet.

This is a wonderful find Sherry. There should be more places like this all over the country.
While I like all the butterfly conservatories that are being built and maintained for foreign tropical butterflies to entertain the public and to raise awareness for butterfly conservation areas I think the money would be better spent to conserve and build these wild spaces for our native wildlife. Our butterflies are as beautiful as the tropical butterflies but people don't get to see them as much. Sorry, I will get off my soapbox here. Lovely photographs.
Oh I agree - 100%! Wish there were more places like this. Loved your pics of the bluebird and butterflies.
the pic of the butterfly in flight is stunning!

Dear Lisa,
I am climbing up on you box and will gladly share the pulpit! While you get a refreshing drink I will shout out, "What about OUR bees and butterflies?"
I have enjoyed the butterfly conservatories when we have traveled. I am pleased more awareness has come to the general public...but like you I am advocating wild space here in the city and the highways and any place there is "land" that is untilled...no need for mowing ...
My Motto:
"Is it good for the bees and the butterflies?"
I think if we remember to take care of the bugs and the birds they will take care of us!
I am thinking about contacting this group and seeing if they need some help.
Maybe I could make a difference for a butterfly or a few bees.

Dear Wendy,
I was so pleased to see this little spot! There are a few picinic tables in a small shelter and all the grounds are planted with native prairie grasses and wild flowers. It was beautiful!
A small area too...
Each neighborhood could have a wild space....I have a few wild spaces in my back yard!!!

Dear Leanne,
Thank you!
I am hoping more people will speak up for the bugs! They are very beautiful and they need us to stop killing them!

How wonderful Sherry, absolutely wonderful.
We have a group of people here who, under the cover of darkness, plant up verges and rundown green spaces with trees and flower. What they are doing is actually illegal but they have the public on their side.
It has been going on for around two years now and I love them.
The beautiful swallowtail and blue bird, what a joy.
Dear Cheryl,
Your free thinking planters are my kind of folks. I am thinking once I get feeling better of contacting the people involved in our wild places project. I would enjoy meeting them and maybe they could use some help. Providing habit is a worth while program.
