I have never worn this type of hat.
Once I began working with felted wool I felt like an artist.
I sculpted my bag yesterday and today my hat!
Felting has opened a new world to me.
Felting is magical!
I sat outside for a few minutes
with my new artist cap sitting happily on my head.
Mocking bird came right up to the Dogwood!
I have missed Mockingbird.

I love your new artist cap! I think you have found a wonderful new hobby in felting :-)
Your stormy sky photo in the last post was fabulous!
I love your new purse and hat!! You have so much wonderful talent - the photos are superb - I agree with deb about the stormy sky photo...
You should post a shot of you in your artist cap Sherry. It sure is cute. I am sure the birds thought you were showing off your new set of feathers, ummm I mean cap. I do wonder what they thought of that cap.
Oh yes, I agree with Lisa. Let us see you in your cap. You certainly are talented! Love the colours.
My dear Sherry! You are so full of creativity. I'm so thankful to know you; and so blessed to be able to see some pf the world through your eyes!
Have a great week!
Love, Vikki
Ummm...pf=of. Sorry. :)
I am in love with that hat.
I think if I wore such a colorful hat, I might feel a little more artistic:) I love your new bag, Sherry! But I must admit the birds are what really catch my eye; it must be hard to tear yourself away from them for other projects.
What a nice hat! Happy felting!
Dear Deb,
Thank you! My hat is a fun whimsy....I hope to make lots more this winter.
I have found my hobby niche. I love the shopping for the used pieces, the cutting up and felting and the creating new useable items.
So fun!
Sherry
Dear Sue,
Thank you!!!
Sharing my crafting on Corner is a step out! Brave girl I am! LOL
I will be crafting on Tuesdays and posting on my Artful Living blog.
I might even get back to narration for my almanac! I have energy again.
Sherry
Dear Lisa,
Oh my goodness...me in my cap? LOL
Maybe over on Artful Living...
I think the birds saw the bright colors...they might have thought I was bringing some sort of new treat for them,
Maria told me her birds like cheese.
Sherry
Dear Wendy,
LOL!
I too love the bright colors set against the black. The stripes and the silk dots just make for a fun item.
I shall be posting my crafting/ art over on Artful Living on Tuesdays. Maybe I will pop in wearing a new hat....
Thank you for your support.
I am having fun creating!
Sherry
Dear Vikki,
When I was reading about felting I kept reading about how the wool "talks" and about the magic of the wool. I just knew this was for me. It is too. Like taking to the camera I have taken to felting. I just love the entire process. I seem to be able to add felting into most conversations too. I also seem to talk photographs...
People talk about what they do and I take pictures and felt!
Hugs,
Sherry
Lots of winter fun coming up!
Sherry
Dear Mimi,
The science behind the felt is interesting. I love the way the fibers open and hook into each other. Felting is older than spinning and weaving for fabric making. I love that too!
Oh I just love everthing about felting...plus all sorts of hats and shoes can be made.
Hugs,
Sherry
Dear Rose,
The birds and I have been friends for a very long time. They know if they need something they can knock on the window!
I have my bird time every day.
Come spring I will be outside in the gardens again wearing my gardening hat and apron.
Now it is time for me to do art!
Having a hat to wear during the process is fun! I might need an artist smock...always have wanted one.
Hugs,
Sherry
I lurrve it. I have always wanted to try felting... was it difficult?
I must add my admiration of that one-of-a-kind lovely hat!Ifound myself touching and feeling the softness of it. The colors are stunning. What a fabulous world you have opened yourself up to! Hugs, carol
Dear Sherry.....I am sure you will look most charming in your beautiful artist cap........
the birds in your garden are beautiful......I have heard the redwing and fieldfare here......I am hoping to get some photographs of them........
Looks like you have found an outlet now that the garden season is closing. Your artist hat reminds me of a thinking hat I made once - with such a hat you will always be inspired...maybe inspiring as well :-)
Dear Saucy,
It is so fun and easy! I love having the felt to craft with too.
I think you would take right to it!
Sherry
Dear Carol,
I love the way you could feel her softness!
I think felting is a new world indeed. I feel as if I took to felting the same way I took to the camera!
Today I shopped a "new to me" thrift store and picked up a 100% wool Italian tweed long heavy piece. I am not sure what it is actually but it still had it's tag. Maybe a rug? It was marked $50.00. I paid a dollar. Back home I put it in the washing machine with hot water and began felting...the magic happened too. It is so heavy that I laid it on the deck to dry and after five hours in the wind it still is sopping wet! Now it is hanging in the shower!
I hope to make a pair of slippers out of it.
Another fun art project for next Tuesday!
Thank you for your friendship and your support on my new adventure.
Love and light,
Sherry
Dear Cheryl,
When I put my hat on to go run errands it was so slippery (the silk lining I am sure) that it kept falling off when I turned my head! I decided it needed ties. So I filled my sink with hot water and began felting some ties. It was so easy. I stretched a piece of wet striped wool until it turned into a long cord. I laid my cord on the counter to dry and wore a different hat. My bag did get to go!
Back at home I sewed the ties onto my cap. Now my artist cap is a walking cap! It is warm too.
Guess I will have to make a new cap to do art in!
The joy of felting.
I am looking forward to seeing your birds. I have my Birds of England field guide out so I can look up and learn about your birds as they come into your gardens.
Now that the leaves are gone photographs are easier to get.
I would like to learn how to do dry felting. It is done with needles. Looks to be very fun! I think I shall try to have one conversation and not talk about felting....no, not yet. I am still so in love with felting it just bubbles out!
Hugs,
Sherry
Dear Chris,
I am totally and completely head over heels with the joy and magic of felting. Right now I am doing somewhat easy things. I do want to try my hand at making slippers.
I would love to have a hat form so I could form hats. That is next....
I just have to find my forms "used" to stay true to my commitment to reuse and recyle.
Part of the fun is the hunt!
A thinking cap would be fun to do...
Thanks so much for talking felt. My husband must be so weary of felt speak! He is nice and responds with enthusiasm.
I do see felt in nature. Moss is very felt like as are leaves smashed by cars and clouds also look felted.
I am bitten,
Sherry
I like the new cap, the colors are so vivid and bright for the dark winter months. I'm trying to understand how felting works. It doesn't seem possible that wool just somehow sticks together to form a solid fabric;)
Marnie
I'm glad they approve of your hat! Who wouldn't? I love it!
Mockers still here and Robins have made showing again.
Life is good.
You are the greatest. I like the feel of felt.
Mary
Sherry. You have to put on your hat and take a picture because you have a very cute face. Next time we have lunch, I'm bringing my camera. You bring the hat. Deal? :-)
Dear Marnie,
Wool does just that! It is so cool too!
I read about the science behind felt. Very interesting how the fibers open up and hook into each other creating the solid mat. I also read how each different wool responds differently. I read how the wool speaks.
I have done a bit of felting in the kitchen sink and the wool does respond to handling in different ways. When I went to make ties for my hat I let the wool guide me. By wetting and stretching and twisting I was able to make a cord. I also made a couple of buttons.
I am head over heels in love with felting!
Sherry
Dear Mary,
I am so glad you have birds about. Are you putting seed out again?
My artist cap is fun.
I will be making more hats. I am active on e-bay! I need hat forms.
How I was smitten with felting I cannot say, only that I am!
Sherry
Dear Maria,
LOL... I will wear cap when we have lunch and you can take a snap!
Corner is not the proper spot for people pictures....maybe Artful Living. We will see. I just hope more people think about felting! It is so fun...
Hugs,
Sherry
