Our first snow is falling softly.
I made a wish.
The Cardinals fill the backyard with color.
The male Red Bellied Woodpecker
calls the backyard home.
Wrapped in my blanket
I stayed warm
while I had my morning bird time.
A pair of Downy Woodpeckers and
a pair of Carolina Wrens came for suet.

They also call my backyard home.
I am so glad they all do.

November things are packed away.
Time to make ready.
Joy filled December is dawning.

Hello Sherry
Such gorgeous first snow fall photos! Yesterday I spotted my first Carolina Wren :-) I was thrilled. I was on the phone with Kate and all she could hear were the clicks of the camera :-)
Burr we are getting the snow now. I love your pictures. I have one of the last picture I think you called it a wren. I will be posting soon.
Have a great weekend.
Grammy
December will be upon us all too soon! We are not ready for it! Time waits for no man.... how true.
Love the little birds as usual. Lovely to think of them getting sustanance from your yard.
Oh you lucky girl, snow. They keep saying we will have snow but it is going north or south of us.
So lovely, Sherry. We had our first snowfall last night, too, and the yard was a winter wonderland. I've been watching the birds this morning, too, especially the male cardinal sitting on the flowering crab--a striking contrast of red on white. Wish I could photograph them like you! Yes, it's time to get out the Christmas decorations. Hope you had a nice holiday.
lovely first snow. Gives me chills just looking at it! I love the silence that comes with the first snow fall. It's a cozy silence. I miss that.
Your bird pictures are amazing. The discripiton of the snow softly falling, made me wish it was snowing here. We get very little snow and I am crazy about it. when it does snow I grab my camera and take as many pics as I can. Enjoy the snow.TTFN
Your first snow...send some my way? We had steady, wonderful rain today.
Your birds are so happy. I'm hoping for the same...
Mornings are the best, I know. I settle for evenings, just before the birds nest for the night. At least I can get a little sunset on their faces :o)
Stay warm. Have you felted a "deck" blanket yet?
Mary
Your pics are beautiful. I just love how real the birds look - I know they are real, but they look like they will turn their heads and say "hello!"
How nice to wish on the first snowfall. I don't remember to make wishes like you do. I think it's a fun thing to do.
I'm wearing long underwear under my slacks for walking outside in the cold (saw your comment on Cheryl's blog).
sherry, we might be getting our first snow late tonight. i want it to. your first snow is so perfect and beautifully shows off the birds colours all the more. what a joy to see each one of these visitors and the wonders they bring to your garden.
Great photos of your birds. The wren is especially precious.
Technically, I reckon we had our first snow of the season too, but it was more like an off and on mixture of drizzle, sleet and/or snow. Yuck!
I Sherry. I loved seeing your birds! I put out plenty of extra food today--our first big snowfall here.
Marnie
Dear Sherry.....fabulous bird shots.....I love the little wren......I can hear mine regularly, he stays all year but they hide.....I have given them too much coverage here....good for them, not for me........oh well, the ways of the wildlife gardener.......
Dear Deb,
Oh my goodness! I am so happy for you...A darling little bird with a huge voice!
Happy decorating.
Sherry
Dear Grammy,
Looking forward to seeing your Wren. They are so cute.
Happy December!
Sherry
Dear Meggie,
The wheel keeps turning, which is good!
I am decorating for December. Since our kids moved so far away we have been traveling to them for Christmas. This year we are staying home. It will be very quiet. Maybe I will get the birds a little something for Christmas morning!
Sherry
Dear Lisa,
I had not been following the weatherman so the snow was a surprise for me!
Your Whooping Cranes and the fog were so tremendous I am still "WOWING."
Sherry
Dear Rose,
Seeing the Cardinals in the snow is inspiring for me. I was ready to start decorating!
Nice to know you also are enjoying the snow and the birds and the decorating.
Sherry
Dear Mimi,
Snow is silent. I love that too. It was Sunday so not very many people were out and about.
I expect we will have more snow before spring. I do not mind!
Sherry
Dear Wanda,
Snow is pretty. I love the way the snow outlines a tree. I also enjoy taking a walk in the snowy woods. I would have gone forth but December decorating is a big job! Once it is finished I can relax and enjoy the snow.
Sherry
Dear Mary,
Always glad to share moisture!
Good you had life giving rain.
I love sunset on their wings too.
Soft light is nice.
I have sort of "felted" a wool blanket for the deck. I bought a large 100% wool plaid blanket at the thrift store and washe dit in hot water. Really shrunk the daylights out of it. Now it is thick and warm!
Sherry
Dear Wendy,
Thank you!!! My birds are my friends and when others can see this relationship I have with them I am so pleased!!!
Not only do they say, "Hello" but also "Be well."
I am a wish maker...what is really nice is my wishes do come true too!
I love my silk long underwear!!
I wear it everyday. So cozy.
Enjoy your winter...make a wish on a star...
Sherry
I love the pretty birds and snow pics! Beautiful!
Dear Marmee,
I always enjoy the first snow!
It is very cold this morning and a snow storm is on the way. I have been outside with the birds. I am back inside warming up...as soon as it starts to snow I want to get some photographs. I too love the way the birds look with the snow. A pair of Tufted Tit Mice came to the peanuts this morning. They are so cute..I also saw a Winter Wren.
I will post if I get any good photos!
Enjoy your snow.
Sherry
Dear Marvin,
I do not mind snow in December. It seems fitting. I do hope it warms up a bit again. I still have the scarecrow out in the vegetable garden. He is frozen stiff!
The birds are delightful.
Another reason why I like snow, the birds look so pretty!
Sherry
Dear Marnie,
I also put out extra seed when it snows. The squirrels are eating lots too since the acrons are few and far between.
enjoy your snow. It is pretty.
Sherry
Dear Cheryl,
I keep the bird seed up close to the house during the winter.
The wrens are so sweet. I saw a Winter Wren this morning. Very shy. I will put some suet out under the bushes for them.
Thank you for enjoying the photographs.
Bird songs,
Sherry
Dear Lavender Dreamer,
Thank you!
In the winter I depend on the birds to help keep my spirits up. I enjoy my bird time every day.
I miss the butterflies!
Sherry
I think you are making me green with envy :o)
Hugs,
Mary(wishing for snow and woodpeckers)
