Voting and Felting

It is a lovely election day.
We walked to the voting poll while the leaves danced in the air
and skipped on the sidewalk.

The wait was manageable.
I took my book.
I visited with neighbors.

I have been looking forward to this day.
I have been planning to begin felting on election day.
I have read lots of books and have choosen my projects.
I want to make a hat and a purse.

I did my shopping at the secondhand shops.
I found a 100% wool sweater and a black cashmere sweater
to be the bodies of my hat and purse.
These I will felt in the washing machine.
I found a 100% silk dress to cut up to use as the linings.
A black velvet braided belt will be the handle for the purse.
I am looking for a large old black coat button to be the fastener.

I am excited!
As I walked into the house I saw a praying mantis.
I sat my basket down and began taking pictures.
Felting can wait for a few more minutes.

What a bug. It also sounds like you have a fine project going. I can't wait to see it.

What a beautiful praying mantis--you know I love them:) He looks like he has a jeweled overcoat for the fall.

I can't wait to see your finished projects!

I too like the praying mantis on the daisy. He does look like he's changed coats.
Your sweaters look so colourful. I didn't know you felted in the washing machine?
I'm looking forward to seeing your finished products too.

Dear Mary,
I always stop for birds and bugs!
Felting is very fun...
I think it is almost as fun as bugs...almost!

Dear Cheryl,
There was a time when I would have choosen a sewing machine over a car! Years ago I sewed lots of clothing for myself and the children.
So far I have had so much fun just creating...no pattern just what my mind comes up with...very fun and freeing.
I have an outfit planned that will go with my new bag and hat. I am looking forward to wearing my new creations.

Dear Lisa,
The mantids have been so photogenic this year! I like the Mantis on the mum. I like have a few blooms so late in the year.

Dear Rose,
I think she was looking for a spot to lay eggs. It is late in the year for the mantis. Not many bugs were out for her to feed on.
Tuesdays are my crafting days. I hope to post on Artful Living as I do a project. I sometimes will post a picture of my projects here too.
The Praying Mantis were out in your gardens this year too! They are amazing bugs.

Dear Wendy,
Using the washing machine makes the process go fast!
I took my sweaters out after about 20 minutes and finished the felting and fulling process in the kitchen sink.
Lots of fun!

Sherry, you already sound like a felting expert. :-)

That praying mantis photo is beautiful. My guys (except for one green one) were always a steady shade of brown. But then, maybe that's the best camouflage color since I was annoying them so much with my camera this summer.

Dear Maria,
I am looking forward to learning how to do needle felting. It looks very fun.
The Praying Mantis is one of my favorite bugs. I think they are so very cool.
