It is the 14th annual Backyard Bird Count weekend.
I was pleased to see the male Red-bellied Woodpecker.
A flock of American Robins
came for water and raisins.
The wind blew strong out of the south.
It was 64 degrees F at 1pm.
I heard the Snow Geese before I saw them.
A huge migrating flock flew over my house.
For a brief moment
I was part of Spring migration.
There are many birds that call our urban backyard home.
The Red Breasted Nuthatch
is one of the smaller birds.
I did not know they ate Dogwood buds!
Most days we have over a hundred birds
visit the feeders.
I counted 24 Northern Cardinals.
It is busy in our backyard.
Happy Sunday Safari.

Dear Sherry, your temperatures are warming up. Perhaps Spring is not far away??
How wonderful, for a brief moment in time, to be part of the spring migration. Sometimes I get so moved by things I can barely breath.
You have so many birds, a garden full of life. Your birds are precious and rely on your gardens for food. A small oasis, a place to stop feed and drink.
What would they do without you?
I did the RSPB yearly bird count a few weeks ago. I do it every year.
The results are published in March. I always look forward to reading them.
BTW I have posted on sanctuary. I shall be using it here and there to post sightings of wildlife in the garden. I need to keep regular notes for reference.
I just got back from the park and there are a pair of nesting herons that have been interesting for about a week! Building...working! One of them is busy all the time! Your photos are great! Love seeing what you see! ♥
Your bird shots are so clear and crisp - I love all the markings and plumage. You've really established a bird paradise on your property!
Wow, 24 cardinals. That is amazing. We are happy when we get 8-10. Those pictures of the RBWO are fabulous. Love those little RBNU too. Such lively little fellows.
sherry, i am so envious that your temps are above freezing, at least in the daytime! we are still very cold, although the birds are starting to sing! i heard a cardinal last week!!!
You got Robins!!!! send some up here, maybe they will chase away the snow. Got another 7 inches.
By the way, there's new poems on the blog.
Wonderful backyard bird count weekend!! How lucky you are to have such a variety of birds visit your garden. Seeing (and counting) 24 Cardinals must have been a thrill!!
