The wind was calm.
I went outside to be with the birds.
I am far from Spring
but milkweed seeds are dancing
and migration has begun.
The sparrows have begun shopping for
nesting boxes.
In February, the Tall Grass Prairie
often is blanketed with snow.
My gardens are still snow covered.
I sat with my books and my note pad.
My camera nestled on my lap.
As the temperatures rise the snow slowly waters
my bulbs and perennials.
I do not want to hurry Spring.
I am content to watch as she slowly emerges.
I shall be planting my chives soon.
They are an early Spring herb
that the bees and butterflies love.
A pair of Red-tailed Hawks hunted
my backyard.
I enjoyed the sun on my face.
We celebrate Valentine's Day
tomorrow.
I shall celebrate all week.

What a magnificent hawk! You do take such amazing shots! I'm surprised that your migration has started already. Ours is not until mid-March.

So many birds, the hawk is magnificent.
I have many birds in the garden. At the moment reed buntings come to share food with the sparrows.
I still have not been able to capture them with my camera. I have given up trying to take photographs of the birds......
The milkweed seed is just so beautiful dancing on the winter air. A new plant for summer......

A Happy Valentine's Day to you, too, Sherry! Such a lovely collection of photos to brighten my day. The weather here, too, is warmer, and the sun is shining; I am enjoying the respite from the cold. Best of all, the birds have returned! Last week, the downy woodpecker and a red-headed woodpecker were both at my feeders, the first time I've seen either of them this winter. I'm hoping they will stay around for the Bird Watch this weekend.
