Sunday Safari

I watched the female Pipevine Swallowtail

lay eggs in the Dutchman's Pipevine.

I will be watching the eggs.
I will be looking for caterpillars.

I finished my lavender harvest.
It is very early for me.
Normally I harvest in the middle of June.
All the bugs and blooms have been early this year.
My husband and I decided to check on the
Ebony Jewelwings and see if they were flying early.
We went to the Arboretum, to the habitat we have seen
Jewelwings in past years.

We were greeted by Zebra Swallowtails

in Butterfly Milkweed.

Gorgeous butterflies!

Great Spangled Fritillaries joined the Zebras.

I was anxious to get to the wooded area where
 the Jewelwings fly.

In the woods we found them.

They were just waking up.

Still to early for mating and laying eggs.
We will come back in a couple of weeks.
For now my heart is full.

The Ebony Jewelwings are awake.
Happy New Green Moon.
Happy Sunday Safari.

Dear Sherry,

The Ebony Jewel Wings are exquisite, I know they make you happy......

How wonderful to watch the butterfly lay eggs.....your garden is such a treasure, an oasis for birds bees and butterflies.

Your lavender is so early. I have no blooms as yet, the weather has been too wet and cool.
My gardens is very slow this year, but they will catch up, they always do don't they??

Happy New Moon

Have a happy sunny week :)

Your photos are as lovely as always Sherry. What a joy to see your beautiful butterflies and the Ebony Jewelwing, such a lovely, delicate creature.

Sadly, Spring has failed here, we have had week after week of dreadful weather and there are very few butterflies to be seen which bodes badly for them next year too. It is so very worrying and for me and many others, desperately disappointing...

We are promised better weather for the middle of the week, we need it, the butterflies need it...it looks like only a brief respite...

These photos are GORGeous!! Oh my, that Ebony Jewelwing, so dainty and delicate, makes my heart beat even more erratically :D---I don't think I've ever seen one before. The Butterfly Weed is beautiful. I have managed to get a few plants to grow, and they are just now budding. I'm having a love affair with my 'weeds' again this year. :) Blessed Bee to my dear friend who dances with Ebony Jewelwings.

How blessed you are to watch that butterfly laying her eggs! I hope you can also watch them hatch.
Gorgeous pictures as always. They look like they've come straight from a story-book.

Once upon a time, there lived a sweet and gentle butterfly......

Summer is here and my imagination takes off. It's this gorgeous weather we've been having. I'm outside all the time and have not sat down at my computer in weeks.

Happy New Moon.

Wow, I am always so amazed by photographers who can capture butterflies. Apparently I'm just not sneaky enough. :) Glad I can see them through your lens, though. I just found your blog today, and it's been a treat!
