Sunday Safari

Day 74

The drought of 2012 continues.
I am grateful for the zinnias.

The bees and butterflies are finding nectar.

Millions of butterflies are dying in the heat and drought.

Gardeners are being asked to plant milkweeds and
butterfly bushes for the migrating Monarchs.
Setting out cut up fruit is also an excellent food source.

The Dogwoods are dropping leaves.
Their berries already ripe.

We went to our dark sky site last night to watch the
Perseid meteor shower.
It was very fun until clouds covered the skies.
Only light sprinkles on our drive home.

Lisa from Greenbow sent me a beautiful gift.
It is now my new nightstand book.
Lisa is so kind. I will treasure each page.

Closing ceremonies air this evening.
A friend is coming over to watch with me.
I have enjoyed the Summer Olympics so very much this year.
The heat and drought have kept me inside these past two weeks.
I will miss the games.

Perhaps the drought will end soon.
Perhaps the butterflies will rebound.
We can always hope.

Sherry,

The butterflies are beautiful. That dogwood looks very sad, bet it does not make it.

We Gardeners are full of hope. The drought just has to come to an end. I am glad you like the book. Have fun watching the ceremonies.

These pictures of the butterflies are exquisite, SherryQ. The sky was brilliant here last night, but I was slumbering before Midnight...

I am going to miss the Olympics, too--what am I going to do in the evenings now? I guess it's time to visit the library again:)

I'm so sorry to hear the heat and drought are continuing for you, Sherry. Although we are still in a severe to extreme drought situation, depending on the expert you listen to, we have had several showers the past week that have revived the garden.

I attended a talk yesterday about butterfly gardening and am thinking about becoming a Monarch waystation. I definitely need to add some milkweeds!

Keep on dancing with the butterflies, Sherry; I hope your rain prayers are finally answered.

I am so sorry to hear that the drought continues for you!! We have had a couple of inches of rain in the past week, but they say that is not enough to declare the drought over.
I love the bee in the photo with the zinnia! Look at her pollen baskets!! So full!

Sherry I do hope the rain back soon. I'll cast a prayer for rain in your area.

Dear Sherry, Your butterflies are so very beautiful! It is heartbreaking to read they are dying in the drought...

How I wish I could send our rain to you. We had some lovely days of sunshine during the Olympics but when they ended so did the nice weather and we have rain again now. I'm so glad you enjoyed the games, I did too.

Sending you many good wishes for rain to replenish and revive your gardens and wildlife...

Songbird, who sings in the sunshine :-)

Hi

I've been doing my own Sunday Safari for a couple years. This weekend I told a couple they could find my blog by googling 'sunday safari'.

I got thinking...did that getch there without my name. That's how I found yours.

I have a contemporary.

Yeah.

I hope you'll visit mine.

Cheers,
