  2. Fancy, fancy!
I never knew there was a Monarch lookalike until I started birding...seems that chasing birds makes you look at everything else out there in nature.
Do you train your butterflies or something? Your photos are always so crisp!

  3. Dear Nita,
I thought it would be nice to see both of these butterflies together so we could see the differences. When I went to take Monarch's photo I could not find even one! Finally two came in. I try to only post photos I take in the day, except on Slide Show Friday.
    Monarch is a show stopper.

  4. Susan,
    They are fancy fellows.
The butterflies really do not pay much attention to me! The birds are somewhat more skittish.
I like up close photos! It is how I see them! If the camera doesn't see what I see I get rather annoyed...

It took me a couple of minutes to see the difference, they both look like stained glass to me. Such beautiful beings!

    Thank you Sherry!

  6. They are very similiar! I always try to find some little clue or story to help me remember these things. Still thinking about these two :-)

  7. Dear Sprite,
    They both are exquite!
Now that I have had a Vieroy in the yard I think I will remember what it looks like.
Much smaller for sure. Next time I think, "Strange Monarch", the light should go on!

  8. Dear Chris,
It took my husband a bit to tell the difference too. I hope Tom will continue to keep me on tract.

  9. Very simple way to remember the difference:
Viceroys have a black line across their hindwings that the monarchs don't have. And the Viceroys are smaller.

    I hope I remember that!
    Thanks,
