I sat in the grass near the marigolds and watched.
The Eastern Comma and the Orange Sulphur were the only two butterflies.
I will go back outside.
I will sit in the grass.
I will watch the butterflies for awhile longer.
Maybe the Buckeye will come.

It's a beautiful day to sit in the grass. I'm so glad you had a couple of visitors. I can feel the cold weather approaching more rapidly now.
I hope you're not sad, I hope you are still holding hope for a beautiful winter and lots of pretty birds in your wild back yard habitat (hehe).

ReplyDeleteAs the days grow colder I am aware that I have few days left for grass sitiing. I took my socks and shoes off too. I adore barefooting in the grass. It was a tad cool but I still enjoyed it.
I am not sad. I know the butterflies will be back. I am saying my goodbyes.
Winter can be ever so lovely. I will be outside too. I have silk long underware and all sorts of hats and gloves and pretty coats.
The backyard is wild!!! I am loving it too. More wild, please.

Sherry, is it unusual for you to still see some butterflies this late in the year? I guess it really helps to have the right kind of habitat to sway them to linger a little longer. ;o)

ReplyDeleteI often have a few butterflies in October. It depends on when 1st frost comes and how many flowers I still have in bloom. Zinnias, marigolds and mums are somewhat frost tolerant. ALso many of the butterflies will come to fruit.
I have had butterflies in February!
Often we will have a mid-winter warm up and some over wintering butterflies will come out for a drink and a sun bath!
