I have chosen the Woodpecker Family to study in 2009.
In my backyard two pairs of Downy Woodpeckers,
one pair of Hairy Woodpeckers and a pair of Red-bellied Woodpeckers
come for suet and nuts.
I have seen Red-headed Woodpeckers in two of our city parks.
I have heard rumors that Pileated Woodpeckers are near by.
Lots of different Woodpeckers to get to know.
I will still feed the Blue Jays their peanuts.
Blue is my color for 2009.

That is lovely dazzle! I like the birds, too. Do woodpeckers ever stand on the ground? A month or so ago there were some birds on the lawn, and one, about the size of a woodpecker, was unfamiliar to me. I wasn't fast enough getting the camera.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! Oh, your Christmas lunch at the plaza was a fun post, too. Your cameras were well behaved.
I love the word Dazzle. It is an exciting word and all that is described with the word dazzle are things you don't want to miss.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have many Dazzling moments in the new year.
Dear Sue,
ReplyDeleteI have heard "bling" used by the young folk for glitter and sparkle! My morning was filled with "bling"!
Sometimes Red-bellied Woodpeckers and Flickers are on the ground getting acorns or bugs. Flickers eat ants.
Happy New Year to you too. I think it will be a grand year!
Namaste,
Sherry
Dear Lisa,
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am ready for a dazzling year! I feel good and am ready to dig in the earth and make lots of art. I am looking forward to planting my dyers garden.
Cheryl was so kind to send some seeds from her garden so I will do an English Children's Garden. I will need some children to play in my garden!
I hope your 2009 is also a dazzling year.
Namaste,
Sherry

ReplyDeleteDear Marmee,
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to getting books on Woodpeckers and learning as much as I can this coming year. I also want to do a photo-book of the Woodpeckers in my backyard. I am thinking about doing some decorating with Woodpeckers too....
I also would like to figure out a way of having a few "woodpecker" logs....
It will be fun!
Namaste,
Sherry
What a wonderful idea to choose a specific bird to study! And Woodpecker family will be so interesting! I love all your Dazzling photos :-)
ReplyDeleteWoodpeckers are sacred - drumming as they do. It will be a very special year for you, learning about woodpeckers. We have lots of them (and nuthatches) here in our backyard as there are so many trees.
ReplyDeleteI also admire the dazzle of your first two images. They sparkle!
I love the light in the first two shots.
ReplyDeleteLove the crystally light photos! Have fun with your woodpecker studies this coming year..
ReplyDeleteYour little Downy is so cute! Ok - I'll be looking for that red-headed and pileated on your blog, Sherry :o) Can't wait to see!

You are bonding with that new camera, I see...

Mary
Bling: jewelry that shines :o)
ReplyDeleteThat first photo looks like Christmas lights in the garden, Sherry! I look forward to learning about all the different varieties of woodpeckers as you show them here. Blue is always my favorite color!
ReplyDeleteThose are great photos! I have the same woodpeckers at my feeders. I have heard the distinct call of the pileated at my father's house but never seen it.
ReplyDeleteMarnie
Dear Deb,
ReplyDeleteI hope I will be able to learn all sorts of interesting facts about Woodpeckers. I will need books and photographs...I will do a Woodpecker report too. 2009 will be fun too.
Namaste,
Sherry
Dear Wendy,
ReplyDeleteI hope to learn the different drumming. I know the calls of the Downy and the Red-bellied. I also know the calls of the Flickers.
I ordered a book about the Woodpeckers in North America. I hope to learn lots.
The day was dazzling!

Dear Dawn,
ReplyDeleteI hope to give a monthly woodpecker report! LOL!
They are really cool birds.

Dear Mary,
ReplyDeleteI am loving my new camera. I still take D50 out for her daily stroll. I like the ease of the 300. I do want to learn how to do her video. Maybe when the Hummers return I can do a Hummingbird Movie! Oh Mary, that would be fun!
Okay, I will get started learning...Maybe I can practice on some butterflies.
Hummers are bling! Jewels of the garden.
May 2009 bring much bling into your life!
Namaste,
Sherry
Dear Rose,
ReplyDeleteWoodpeckers will be fun.
Yellow was my favorite color for many years. When I was a teenager blue was my favorite...
when I was a child I loved pink. (Hummm...I still love orange so I think I am okay....)
I made a couple of blue hats now I need outfits to go with.
May 2009 be a glorious year for you and yours.
Namaste,
Sherry
