What a beautiful photo - you can see the joy in his singing!! I have never seen a brown thrasher ... I bet he sounds as gorgeous as he looks.
Dear Chris,
As you can tell from the photo the new leaves on the Ash tree are brown. They will fall off. Hopefully the tree will try again to make leaves.
Let's see, the speed of sound through air, under normal conditions and when the temperatures are about 21/C (70/f),
is 1238 km/h (769 mph) so I bet you can hear the Brown Thrasher this afternoon!

Dear Deb,
He is a beautiful bird. His rusty red back and long tail look so lovely in the sunlight. He is about 11 inches (28 cm) long, a bit longer than our American Robin.
He has a huge repertoire of musical phrases over 1,100! One of these days I will have a picture of the bird and his song.
I checked his range and he will migrate as far north as the southern tip of Canada around the Great Lakes region.
Hope you have a chance to see one.
