First Snow

Before the snow began
I set up a few more seed tables.
I replenished the seed trays.

The feeders were full of birds.
Many birds were waiting for their turn.

So many Cardinals came for lunch,
I lost count.

I made three wishes on the first snow.

I opened the door and sat in the doorway.
The oven was on and the cold air was refreshing.
Safe travel to those who are on the roadways and in the sky.

How wonderful your birdies will have a good Thanksgiving too. I did the same thing here today. Got suet cakes out, peanuts in the shell and peanut butter in the log as well as seeds. All should get their fill tomorrow as we will.

It is a wonder the birds didn't storm inside for some of those cinnamon rolls. I can't get them out of my mind. :)

Happy Thanksgiving

I adore visiting here! Your photos leave me breathless at the beauty of nature! I have a special fondness for birds and seeing your photos inspires me to try and capture a few myself! Snow? You have got to be kidding, I love snow but we mostly seem to get ice! Have a wonderful Thaksgiving!

Never thought of making wishes on the first snow fall. One thing about snow, when it's in the air. The birds will empty out your feeders no time.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Dear Lisa,
It is fun to set things up for the birds isn't it? They do enjoy the suet cakes! I will fix peanutbutter sandwiches tomorrow for the squirrels. I did get tickled...there were easily 75 birds on the deck and my backdoor was open. If Cooper's Hawk had flown in I bet I would have had birds inside seeking protection!
Now if the Carolina Wren wanted in I think I would let that sweetie live inside with me. My daughter says the inside of the house is not set up for the birds. She is right. The mirrors and all the nick-nacks and the antiques might cause them distress. I will just have to bundle up so i can be outside with them.
Happy Thanksgiving.
I so grateful I have met you.

Dear Cathy,
Happy thanksgiving!
I think the first snow is very magical! It also is always so pretty.
So many birds came this morning during the rain that all the seed was eaten up. I refilled all the feeders and seed trays and during the snow storm even more birds came. It was amazing.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones.

Snow...bless your heart and thank you for sharing such a wonderful sight.

There was a lot of action at my feeders today as rain and wind is pending for tomorrow. I took care of them but I forgot the rotten bananas... (wink)

Lovely photos.

Happy Thanksgiving Sherry,
You are a treat and chicken soup for my soul,
Love,
Mary

I'll have to enjoy your first snow as any chance of the white stuff has been removed from our forecast this time around. Thank you for the wonderful photos. Have a great Thanksgiving.

Dear Mary,
Bless you! My goodness. You are a great comfort for me too. Having a kindred spirit in North Carolina pleases me so much. I know the birds and butterflies are being taken care of. Now to get you some needed rain!
I don't mind the snow. I think it is very pretty. I do have concerns for those that have to drive in it or fly. I was in a blizzard last December in Nebraska and was very concerned!
May you also have a wonderful Thanksgiving. My cooking is very small, the day is stress free for me. I will be outside with the birds.
Hugs,
Sherry

Dear Mon@rch,
Thank you. Snow is lovely if you can just walk about in it! The removal and the driving is what is difficult for me. I tend to let nature do the melting and I try to stay home!
Happy Thanksgiving to you too and to your family. Enjoy the snow. I love the way the Cardinals look in snow.

Dear Anna,
Thank you. It will be a quiet day for us. Just a nice sweet potato and some veggies.
Make your wishes on your first snow. They will come true. I bet your roses will look beautiful with a snow icing.

Dear Marvin,
Rain is always welcomed at this time of year as long as it does not become ice! Ice is so hard on everything and everyone. We have had some very servere ice storms. It is pretty until the limbs of the trees start breaking and the power goes out.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and to your loved ones.
Catch a dream!

It always amazes me that the birds just sit and watch the snow flakes without trying to find shelter :-) I guess they may not have seen it before. Wonderful photos as always, Sherry. Over here many people wish for a White Christmas :-) You have beaten us to it and have a White Thanksgiving. Enjoy your day at home with your husband and the birds xx

Dear Chris,
I am having a bit of trouble today getting my responces to post. Hope others are having an easier time.
The birds never seem to mind the rain or the snow. I remember last year during an ice storm I was concerned and they were just fine. They just seem very hungry.
The snow ended up being only a dusting. The air was cold but the ground was still warm. Most of the snow was melted before nightfall.
A white Christmas seems so very romatic! I am wishing for a mild Christmas this year. We will be traveling and I already went through a blizzard at Christmas time last year.
Stay warm and hopeful! The season of light is coming soon and the days will once again grow longer.
I am so grateful for you.
Hugs,
Sherry

We woke to our 1st snow this morning. The photos of your birds in the snow are simply breathtaking! Our feeders have needed to be refilled twice already - everyone is hungry.

Dear Deb,
I am so excited for you! First snow is the magical one. Always a surprise and always so pretty. Even when the forecast is for snow I never believe it until I see it.
Thank you. I enjoyed taking the photos. By March snow will not be so fun!
