Pine Siskin

Hello!
I was sitting on the deck when I saw six
Pine Siskins come to the feeders.
These are new to my backyard.
I have been reading about them.

I was hoping some would find my feeders.
This is the first time I have ever seen them.
I am excited.
Pine Siskins in my backyard!
Oh joy!

Dear Mon@rch,
I am so very pleased! I had seen one on Mary's feeder and went looking in my book to see if they ever came to Missouri. Sometimes, it said, they come in the winter. I wonder if they will stay all winter like the Purple Finches and the Gold Finches? Having a new species in the yard is always a day to celebrate.
You will see some soon I am sure. You have so many different birds...
Always I am wowed!

Dear Mari-Nanci,
I also had never heard of them until Mon@rch id one on Mary's View! When I checked my Missouri book and saw maybe they could come here I have been keeping my eye out.
We learn from each other. It is nice we can do that.

Sherry so happy you got a yard bird and such a pretty one. We have had up to 15 at our feeders lately. It is the first time in three years so be sure and enjoy your Pine Siskins. They don't come around every year. This is a finch invasion year. Yipeeee

We are still looking for Purple Finch here in SW IN. I have read that people all around our area are getting them. I don't know why we don't get them. whine..

It's been wonderful visiting here, this evening! Gorgeous photos!

We enjoyed traipsing around Ha Ha Tonka, with Molly, Sunday. Monday we traipsed around Lake of the Ozarks St Pk. The weather is glorious and the colors are amazing. We were out gallavanting again today! Our first official day trip of retirement!

Dear Lisa,
I will keep an eye out for more to arrive. It is getting rather busy at the feeders now. I may want to set up another station if the party continues. The Purple Finches, House Finches and the Gold Finches are all here as well.
It is Finch party time!
I hope the Pine Siskins stay. My husband would enjoy seeing them. He is gone before sunrise and seldom gets home before dark. Weekends are when he gets to sit on the deck and watch the birds!
I bet the Purple Finches will be at your feeders any day now.

Dear Pat,
All the areas you wrote about are familiar to me as well! Missouri has lovely woods to walk about in!
Have fun! The trees have been incredible this year.

Dear Sheila,
I do not know if the Pine Siskins will stay or not. This is the first time I have ever seen them! I hope they stay for the winter. We do have lots of pine trees for cover. I would not mind setting up another feeder if I need to. I have a few already but there is always room for more birds!

Dear Anna,
I thought your bags were very charming! I have an extra large bag that my sister brought home from London that holds the plastic grocery store bags.
I was bare feet today too. I get warm in the sun with the butterflies and birds. Once the sun goes down I get cold and have to get my blanket out!
I am in my bird time now. When a butterfly does come it is an event!

Dear Sprite,
They just charming. I am smitten!
So cute of a call too. Today more came. I think there were at least a dozen if not more. I would be very pleased if they stayed all winter.
Pine Siskin party time!

Dear Deb,
I am very excited! I was out before dawn getting lots of seed and water ready for them. When their friends came I sat on the deck and was in heaven!
I do need to sweep and clean up from today's party and set things up for tomorrow. Maybe if they see there is plenty of food and water they wiill stay.

Hi Sherry, they are still here at my house, too. I used my ancient, malfunctioning binoculars to make sure. LOL!

CONGRATULATIONS on a new yard bird. I know you made them feel welcome. They will stay.

Dear Mary,
They are so cute!! I am so happy they are at your house and mine! Wow. The group that came in yesterday was very hungry.
A nice little flock stayed all day feeding and drinking. I have set up a few more feeders too so there is plenty of food for everyone.
I call this event, "Pine Siskin Pary."
Birds..lots of birds. Oh joy.
Bird songs and sweet Pine Siskins for everyone!

Dear Susan,
Yes, they are very cute. I watched them with the Gold Finches. They seem to get along well with them. Not to skittish of a bird either. Sweet little call.
I read they do winter over in my area sometimes. With lots of food and water I am hoping my backyard habitat is a good match. Year around I have Gold Finches, Purple Finches and a large flock of House Finches. The little Pine Siskins should feel right at home. I do have two extra large White Pine trees too. Plenty of cover.
I shall read up on them this afternoon. Looks as if they have a nice range. Glad they are visiting your feeders.
The birds do depend on backyard birders to provide.
