Warm Afternoon

The sun was warm.
The temperatures rose into the 60's.
The Eastern Comma came out to sun.
A few bees found some nectar.
The killing frosts left a few blooms.
An Orange Sulphur flew about the yard.
I thought she was a leaf.

I love the fact that you are able to share the butterflies with us when our temps are in the 30's! Wonderful photos!

I can see why you would think a sulfur was a leaf. There are leaves blowing about our garden. I look out at times and see a blizzard of leaves coming down.

Dear Mon@rch,
Often after our first killing frost we have warm up. I think of it as Indian Summer. This year our frost came rather late. I do not know if this is Indian Summer or not. I will wait a few days and see. It is to be warm this weekend. Sometimes Indian Summer comes around Thanksgiving.
There are a few blooms left. Mums are still okay. There are some wild violets and a few dandilions! Enough I think for the few butterflies that will emerge. I will set out some bananas too for them.
Dress warmly! Your Owls need you!

Sherry, enjoy every moment you have. Our frosts have wiped out everything colorful except some salvia. You are a very lucky lady!

I turned on the heat two nights ago! Wild, huh?

One cannot tell by these photos that it is almost mid November, it's so amazing. Butterflies, Bees and Flowers still around and in bloom are wonderful.

Love that bee!

Dear Lisa,
I also have many falling leaves. The front Maple dropped about half of her leaves this week. The yard looks like November.
I normally use my peripheral vision to spot butterflies. With all the leaves falling I am turning my head like a bobber...
The birds must think I am rather silly.

Dear Cathy,
I am outside as much as possible...
I hope the snows wait until all the leaves have fallen. One year we had a wet snow in October. Leaves were still on the trees. Many branches broke from the weight of the snow. We also have had early ice storms. Again many broken and downed trees.
I like snow in December and January. I think it is pretty.

Dear Mary,
Your Autumn has been rather short!
Maybe Indian Summmer will come soon.
I wait for as long as possible to remove leaves from the flower beds. I can see some snap dragons poking out from leaves so they should be food for the butterflies. I also see many of the geraniums are still in bloom.
The mums are doing fine too. We need rain again.
I have my space heaters up. If I get chilled at my desk I turn one on. I do like the chilly mornings and the warm afternoons.

My Dear Sprite,
It is interesting to see what has been nipped. We had a week of killing frost yet many of my blooms survived. I see lots of wildflowers too are doing fine.
I saw a few bees! I love the bees.
The Eastern Comma is the butterfly I study in November. Nice to be able to study one up close and flying about.
I love walking in November too.
Enjoy the lovely air and the light.
Many blessings,
Sherry

I realised, while looking at your post, that the thing I dislike most about this time of year is the inability to step into my garden when I come home from work to see what is new. It was almost totally dark and you really can't see much without a touch :-) I don't know if we have had bees or butterflies today (although I very much doubt it, the wind has been very strong!). Your photos are beautiful!

Dear Chris,
Working outside of your home during the day means twilight or even darkness when you return home. You have weekends but I am sure there are house chores to do. I am very grateful I can be a stay at home person. There ups and downs to both choices. I like to think it is my job to watch the birds and butterflies. The pay is not in money and so far I have yet to convince the utility companies they can watch a video of my backyard birds for a month of heat!
LOL.. One of these days you will retire and be home with the birds and the bees. Until then enjoy what you can, when you can.
I am sending blessings. If we both cannot be outside during the daylight hours at least one of us is.
Hugs,
Sherry
