St. George's Day

Today is St. George's Day.
St. George is the patron saint of England.
I look forward to this day each April.
I dressed quickly this morning and took my coffee to the deck.

In my gardens St. George's Day means the return of the
Baltimore Orioles.

I was writing in my journal when I heard his call.

The scout had arrived right on schedule!

He found the oranges!
After he had a few bites he flew off.
He will tell the rest of his flock where the oranges are.
When they come back they will find grape jelly and fresh nectar!
I am very happy to see the Baltimore Orioles.
Happy St. George's Day!

Sherry, I just looked up the record of the earliest sighting of Baltimore Oriole at our house and it is May 4. This is also when we usually get hummingbirds. You are so lucky to get them so early. I can't wait. Maybe with it being so darned hot they will arrive earlier this year. However The honeysuckle and columbines aren't quite open here. Their arrivial usually coincides with the blooms. Great picutres.

Lucky you! I'm still waiting for the hummingbirds to show up. Did see a cute groundhog today.

Dear Lisa,
For the last three years the Baltimore Orioles have come on April 23rd! I was so happy to see them.
The Hummers have not come in yet! They usually come a week or so later.
No Honeysuckle here yet either.
It has been somewhat cool here. I think this has been a very beautiful spring, slow and deliberate.
Do put the jelly out. They see the oranges but come back for the jelly!
It is party time.

Dear Cathy,
I have not seen the Hummers yet either! Any day now...
Spring is very exciting. The Orioles stick around for a few months too. Butterfkies are waking up too. I do love Spring.
Groundhogs are cute and eat lots of my veggie garden!
