Puffins

Maybe someday I will see
a Puffin in the wild.

Until I do I will dream of them.

I have the red envelopes out.

I am making January bookmarks

and slipping wishes into others.

These are going in my decoupaged memory box for 2009.

I have the sides finished. I can add to them if I want to.

The top I will add to
as special pieces come my way this year.

This was my art project today.
I have set up a portable paper craft studio.

Those crystal puffins are great. They seem extra real. Very Creative with your 2009 Memory Box.

Great work Sherry. I love the puffins too. I have a friend that has a collection of puffins. They look like little flying footballs to me when they are flying about. Clowns of the sea some people say.

Dear Marmee,
I have done scrapbooks since I was a little girl. I have so many....
I decided this year to break away from them and do the memory boxes. I think it will be fun to make the boxes and quick to slip a memory into. I also am excited about paper crafting...I have this idea to make a paper tree, sort of like my felted one, and put a lttle decoration of the projects I do with paper on my tree. I cut tiny butterflies out of the scraps from my box project.
I will post pictures of the bookmarks. They are fun to do and so easy...using the little pieces of life in fun ways.

Dear Natural Moments,
The crystal Puffins were a happy impluse buy years ago. I have enjoyed them very much.
The memory box was so fun to do. I found a wooden shaker box in the basement this afternoon I think I will decoupage. Maybe it could be for my little January treasures...
I might need the rest of the week I enjoyed your Sea Lions today. The oceans have amazing creatures in them.
I am head over heels in love with the sea...

Dear Lisa,
When my husband and I were in Nova Scotia the Puffins were not! I had hoped to see them. I also have read some are in Alaska. Did you see them when you were there?
I think they are pretty birds,

Dear Dawn,
Just the one...so far! I have about 100 scrapbooks. The boxes should be easier for me to do. I think I am just tired of scrapbooking. I do have a January scrapbook that I will finish up. It has a Chinese motif. I would like to make lots of boxes. I guess I could do them as gift boxes too.
I will put the ticket stubs from when we go to movies or the sweet notes friends and family send...today I received the cutest birth announcement, my Great Neice, Lucy was born in December. Those sort of darlings are too sweet not to save.I also will put the fortunes from our cookies. I will add a bit of lavender since it is the herb for 2009. All sorts little bits of this and thats come my way and I will store them in the memory box.

Among my early childhood memories is my Mother reading to me from a large book with many different stories and poems. Puffin was one of my favorites.

Dear Mary,
I realized just how much I do need my big studio....I would love to have a paper craft spot so all I have to do is sit down and craft away. I think I would get lots more accomplished. It took me a long time to gather up just a few supplies.
Me too...and a penguin in the wild and a sea dragon and ...and...

Dear Aluajala,
I have used all the sissors! I like the pretty cutting edge.
Pulling together the paper crafting things is fun. Now to stay organized so I can create easily. My goal for 2009 is to be more organized. I need a big studio....
I will continue to create, I find it sooths my soul. I have lots of ideas too.
Hugs,
Sherry

Dear Marvin,
What a delightful poem. Thank you. I printed it and will make it into a bookmark for my Puffin book.
I love being friends with my food...pancakes are soooo good... way better than fishes.
Thanks again.
Delightful.

I have some similar boxes for scrapbooking items. It would be fun to decoupage some memories onto them.

Your puffins are so cute. What a funny, lovely bird.

Dear Scienceguy 288,
I will do some research and see what I can learn about the Rifele bird of Paradise. I have never heard of them.
They must be fantastic!
Thanks for telling me about them.
Off to be charmed!

Dear Marnie,
I had fun doing the decoupage. I cannot decide if I am going to do a box for each month or for the year...The 2009 in silver are stickers. Easy to take off. It might be fun to make a new box each month.
The Puffins are fun! I do them in January along with Penguins and the Asian things. I am not sure when I fell for the Puffin but I did.

There once was a puffin
In the shape of a muffin
And he lived on an island
In the deep blue sea
He ate little fishes
Which were most delicious
And he had them for supper
And he had them for tea!

Dear Cheryl,
I too love lovely boxes. I have all sorts. The decoupaged box is a new way for me to enjoy the sentimental papers that come my way. As the month unfolds I will add to the top. I do have a red envelope inside with some lavender in it! I am thinking about doing a decoupaged scrap tree. Something like what I am doing with the felt scraps. I have the little pieces that I cut for the box saved and if I can think of a good tree and place for it to hang I will paste the tiny paper pieces on to it. I have made a tiny butterfly with a ribbon scrap...
My bookmarks are for my new books. I have special bookmarks too. I think they are wonderful. Lisa painted me one last year. I treasure it. I would like the bookmarks to "go with" the book.
How fantastic that the Puffins are on your coastlines. I hope to see them one day.
Staying warm and having fun,
Sherry

Deareggie,
I thought of you when I was gone. I saw so many birds from New Zealand.
Hope you are staying cool....
I shall come by for a catch up.

Dear Wendy,

But this poor little Puffin,
He could't play nothin',
For he hadn't anybody
To play with at all.

So he sat on his island,
and he cried for awhile, and
He felt very loney,
And he felt very small.

Then along came the fishes,
And they said, "If you wishes,
You can have us for playmates,
Instead of for tea.

So they now play together,
In all sort sof weather,
And the Puffin eats pancakes,
Like you and like me.
