We are a community

While I worked with my paper crafts this morning
I thought about my community.
I thought about you.

I made my January bookmarks and cards to send.
Inside each red envelope is a card.
I can write a Haiku or a thank you.
I can send a "thinking of you" or a "get well".
Marmee, from Things I Love, asked to see the bookmarks.
She is interested.
It is amazing to be in a community of interested people.

Yesterday, Marvin, from Nature in the Ozarks, sent a link in comments, for a poem he remembered from his childhood. I printed the poem and made a bookmark for my Puffin book. It is a charming poem. It was kind of Marvin to share. It is what we do in this community. We share. We share ice storms and dragonflies. We share the birds that grace our backyards. We care. Thank you for the smile.

Julie Zickefoose is one of us.
Her paintings and writings touch my heart.
Sometimes she touches so deeply I have no words.

Julie has a story in Bird Watcher's Digest this month that touched me deeply.
She has friends that are birds that come to her feeders.
She wrote about Ruby, a female Red bellied Woodpecker.
I too have relationships with birds.
I too know the sadness when a bird that is my friend dies.

We may be continents apart but we are community.

We care.
Thank you for inviting me into your backyard.
Thank you for kitchen table time.

Yes this is a wonderful community. I never thought we could care long-distance. But we do! Even without meeting face to face. Isn't it amazing? I am glad to live in this electronic age. I wonder where it will take us in the next 50 or 100 years? How will people be communicating then?

Your artwork is as thoughtful as it is creative. And filled with love.
I like coming here. I have learned so much.

How dear of you, Sherry. Thank you so much. I am happy to say that the NEXT issue of Bird Watcher's Digest has the solution to windowkills. At least I explain what works for me. No more thunks!
Ruby's mate is going strong and very saucy--he will cling to the patio door screen and scold us if the suet dough runs out! Naughty boy!
Your photo of the cover of my book is better than the one the publisher provided!
I feel honored to have met you in person at Beaver Creek. You're right--it is a community, and anyone who says it isn't "real," well, they just don't understand.

Sherri..thank you for wonderful words and great pictures, I am very fond of.
Love to visit your blog and enjoy your posts.

The World is so empty if one thinks only of the mountains, rivers, and cities;
but to know someone who thinks and feels with me, and who, though distant is close to me in spirit, this makes the earth for me an inhabited garden.

Dear Marmee,
I look forward each day to connecting with my on line friends. I think about you and your children. I think about all the gardens and the birds and the bugs. I cry with my friends when loved pets die or when family members have health challanges. I send blessings, light candles and pray. I laugh and cheer with my friends. It is a connection that is awesome. Here we have grass roots and lemonades, and we can do anything!
I also began blogging so I could share with my children what was going on at Mom and Dad's. My daughter encouraged me. Now I have friends from all over the world.
Sue, from Tumblewords, encouraged me to do the slide shows and to publish my photographs. My new best friend, Cheryl, from My Wildlife Sanctuary, holds my heart when I am sad...jumps with joy when I am happy...loves the bees and the birds and blooms. These are true and caring friends...It is just amazing. I started blogging three years ago and not only do I have a huge volume of work I also have found a community of fantastic people. Lisa shares her knowlege of the birds, she kindly will identify a bird for me; Mary shares her humor, life touches her deeply and she knows to smile and laugh and somehow we will muddle through. I find I am trusting Humans more and more thanks to this community.
It also amazes me how many fantastic, talented, caring people are in our world. Meggie's quilts are so beautiful I just might have to take up quilting so I can use up my scraps from felted projects.
I am influenced by this community..
I have decide in 2009 Wednesday will be "Friend Day".
I want to showcase different friend's blogs and how they have impacted me.
Thank you for being interested.
I treasure my time with you.
Namaste,
Sherry

Hola Sherry,

This was a beautiful post.

I am so far away from the rest of you, live on an oposite season all the time, sometimes it is a bit sad when I read your posts and comments on all your blogs and it is obvious that you can relate to lots of experiences because of that. You share weather, birds, and even have the chance to meet.

I hope I can meet you someday. I met wonderful friends thru blogging, and I feel blessed.

Thank you for your always great posts and words. They are good for the soul.

Besos,

Mel

Dear Lisa,
Julie is good! I think because I hear her on NPR I also can hear her voice.
I appriciate all of your bird support. I know when in doubt I can e-mail you a photograph. It means so much to me to have that kind of connection. I do not think any of my friends in town have ever even seen a field guide!
LOL
Birds, bugs, blooms, paintings, felting we are friends.
Thank you,
Sherry

Dear Dawn,
I think I shall get back into making paper. Years ago I did it from the "junk" mail that came to the house. I think I will see if I can find my paper making things.
I try to post on my Artful Living blog on Tuesdays, the art project I am working on. I seem to always be making something! I have just started back into paper art since my family inspired me with their birthday presents they made for me.
Thank you Dawn for asking about the paper crafts. I love being in conversation with you.
Cut, paste and smile,
Sherry

Dear Wendy,
The internet is amazing...I just heard a report about the connections people have because of blogging. All sorts of peace makers here on the blogs!
This is grass roots...

Dear Julie,
My female Red-Bellied gets upset with me if the peanut holder runs low. She likes the mixed nuts... the Cardinals will come to my office window if there are cats in the backyard. The wild life just has their way with me.
I love your book. Rumor has it another one is in the works? Are you writing? I do follow your blog. You have many devotees!
I was not at Beaver Creek...a different Sherry. I do feel as if I know you. It is all part of our connection...the sharing of that inside stuff. It is the way the birds hold our hearts.
Bird songs and butterfly wings,
Sherry

Dear Gisela,
Thank you for your lovely words. It is the "connect" that makes it all worth while for me too. The one in spirit.
I was so touched by Marvin's link.
So tender...so real.
I feel close to you too even though we live so far away...I almost can see you when I close my eyes...
Remarkable this is...

Dear Deb,
We ARE community. I was thinking the other day about when Spring came to early to my gardens in 2007 and I lost so many plants. You and Kate and Chris were there for me. You kept my spirits up and encouraged me. I was so sad...so very very sad. You also supported my first attempts at photography...you have been near since the begining. Thank you.
My birds are about the same as they have been for over thirty years..(only three here on Corner) you still love them!
I miss Benny...I get choked up and my eyes are full of tears when I think of him and you and how important he was in your family.
I think you would love Julie's Diary. Her paintings are incredible and her insights are "spot on!"
Thank you Deb. From the bottom of my heart thank you for your friendship.
Hugs,
Sherry

Dear Marnie,
Do have fun making bookmarks. I leave them in the books too. Sometimes I will write the date on the back when bookmark was born.
Lisa painted me the loveliest bookmark last year. I treasure it.
Bookmarkers are fast to do and no rules. Any little piece of paper or ribbon or even a tiny charm works.
I am so happy you enjoy the sharing. It makes Corner fun for me. It is joy getting to know you.
Namaste,
Sherry

Dear dear Mel,
I waited to write to you...I want to hold your hand and see your smile...We will meet. We will. I promise. You were so sweet and kind last year when I was sick and you wanted to send me grains so I would be well. You cared...you cared deeply. I feel so honored that you honestly cared. I am grateful.
We are seasons and oceans and a continent apart yet we are one in spirit...we are connected. When the time is right spirit will find a way for you and I to have lunch and birds and laughter.
Until that time we will celebrate our time here and at your journal. We will be grateful we found each other.
Besos, my friend...
Sherry

Dear Cheryl,
It is a miracle we met. It is an act of spirit that we found each other...it is a crazy world and yet here we are happy and laughing and knowing the bees and the birds and the Moon.
We are old friends you and I.
We are connected....the trees know us.
Thank you always,
Sherry
