Spinning Wheel

My friend taught me to spin yesterday.
I took right to it.

We went on an adventure to the Yarn Barn in Lawrence, Kansas.
My friend knew there were knowledgeable people in this shop
to help me choose the right spinning wheel.
When I saw this cherry wheel I knew she was my
spinning wheel. I do think she choose me!

She is exquisite.

When I sit at the spinning wheel I know I have come home.
Within moments I am comfortable. I am relaxed.

This is where I belong.

One with fiber.

One with the spinning wheel.

Homespun.

I am so excited for you!

She is beautiful. I can't wait to see what lovely things you and your wheel will create. I've got the biggest smile on my face imagining yousitting before your wheel with the sunsine filling the room and the birds watching you through the windows. I would imagine this activity could translate to the out-of-doors when summer arrrives; then you'll have the best of both of your worlds!

;0)

Have a wonderful week!

Lovely! My in-laws have a spinning wheel they are passing down to us. I've never spun, but am looking forward to learning when the time comes.

Dear Vikki,
I sat at my whell this morninga nd the sun was sinning into my livingroom...the little Carolina Wren perched right on the wrought iron work on the door, looking right in at me...I laughed and he sang! I spun and laughed and had the best of times.
I think this Spring I will take my wheel outside. Spinning on the deck with the birds will be very magical!
Hugs,
Sherry

Dear Sue,
The spinning wheel is as important to me as my camera! I feel as if I am changed and she has only been here 24 hours!
One of these days I will be able to spin all the yarn I need for my fiber projects.
I will have show and tell as soon as I have a bobbin full!
Thank you for your encouragement.
Sherry

Dear Mimi,
Thank you! She is gorgeous...I was told, as she ages, her cherry wood will darken. I will keep her woods oiled too. I once was an antique dealer so I know a wee bit about caring for woods.
Hugs,
Sherry

Hi Sherry, that looks grand. One with fiber, that sounds like heaven, being one with something you love. I have watched people spin, a lady in town has alpapcas and teaches a class in spinning using their wool. It looks so relaxing. So glad you found *the one*!

That looks fun! I taught myself to weave on a friend's loom a few years ago, but haven't done anything with a wheel. I will be watching the progress of your studio!

Somehow I am not surprised that you took up spinning Sherry. Your lady is quite beautiful. You will have many hours of fiber between you.

I am back from our vacation. It will take time to get some posts together. Had a great time and in answer to your question. I got some lifers. It was a great vacation.

Dear Deb,
I have deemed 2pm as spinning time.
I would love to sit and spin all day but I do have other commitments...Spring cleaning is still in progress.
So far my yarns are rather knobby.
I will get better.
One of these days I will post a photograph of a skein of homespun.

Dear Mel,
What I have noticed already is how relaxed and calm I am when I spin. I just love it. I think it is great high blood pressure therapy!

Dear Frances,
Learning to spin is more than a dream come true. Spinning for me is calming and feels "right". I look forward to my spinning time.
I did get a quality wheel so I will have her for the rest of my life. I will learn her ways.
We have bonded!
Namaste,
Sherry

Dear Gardenpath,
I also would love to learn to weave. I did a tiny bit on my friend's loom when I was at her house and I could see I will love it too.
I need room for a loom....
It is so rewarding to work with fiber.
Before learning to weave I will learn to knit! Hopefully, one of these days, I will have some homespun yarn to do up!

Dear Sprite,
Oh my goodness, I am so happy to see you! Surely it is Spring...Sprite has woke up!
I still do not know her name....
Perhaps she will reveal it as I learn to make delicate yarns...
Being at the spinning wheeel is magical. I have no words for the joy...
So very good to hear from you,
Love and light,
Sherry

Dear Lisa,
So happy you are home, safe and sound. Glad the raod trip went well. I love them.
A lifer for you is huge! I saw many lifers when I was in Texas but it was my first trip to the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
Looking forward to seeing photographs.
Travel is fun but coming home even better!

Oh Sherry, I am so excited for you! That spinning wheel is truly a beauty! And when you have that "coming home" feeling, you just have to honour it.
Thanks for sharing.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! And don't worry about playing catch-up on blogger. We'll see you when you're not spinning.

Hmmm, I've noticed fewer posts from you lately, Sherry, and now I know why--I am picturing you sitting contentedly at this beautiful wheel, spinning yarn. Enjoy!

Looks like a Saxony Spinning Wheel.
No bird watching and taking pictures anymore?

Dear Wendy,
I love spinning...it is so wonderful. I had thought I would wait and get my wheel in April. My March is rather full. When I exlpained all of the whys of waiting my husband suggested I go learn to spin and get my wheel now and not worry about all the work I had to do! So I am trying to carve out at least an hour each day for spinning.
I am honoring my spinning time too...not letting other things rob me of my time at the wheel.
I still will blog and read and come visiting and spend time with the birds...I may need some help with the cleaning and scrubbing and cooking!
Hugs,
Sherry

Dear Meridith,
I wish my Grnadmother's had spun. I would have loved learning from one of them.
Love your stories!
I listen to books on tape while I spin.
I could listen to any of your stories!

You found a treasure - a Reeves wheel, yes? Is there a year it was built? Very nice. If it's a Reeves, you have a collector's wheel
