Sunday Safari

We are on sun time.

I do best on sun time.

I watched the Yellow-shafted Flicker.

He also is on sun time.

The Red-breasted Nuthatch is comfortable.

I have set up a special feeder for him.

Light frost nipped the cosmos

but left the marigolds untouched.

The female Northern Cardinal
knows where I put extra seeds just for her.

These are gorgeous early
November days.

We are walking twice a day.

I am committed to my walking program.

In past Novembers I have celebrated
the Native American Indians.

This year I am celebrating
the Cowgirl.

When I was a little girl

Annie Oakley,
 Little Sure Shot,

was my role model.

Still today I respect her.

When I see pictures of her
I am reminded of my girlhood dreams.

The ladies of the old west

had spunk

and great style!

I come from prairie farmers
rather than ranchers yet
I know there is a Cowgirl inside me.

I remember Dale Evens
from when I was a little girl.

I loved her outfits.

The Cowgirl story is a "can do" story.

I am releasing my
inner Cowgirl.

I am planning November
adventures.

I will always honor The Trail of Tears
the Indians walked,
but this year I am looking for new trails
to explore.

This year I am gathering my
rope and my hat.

This year I am looking at the colors of night

and collecting charms.

I might even sing a song by a camp fire
or learn to do the two-step.

Happy Sunday Safari.
Happy November.
Happy Trails to You.

Dear Sherry, I hope that you have plenty of seed in stock for the birds....I know how much they rely on you and your garden.

My marigolds are but a distant memory, rain and frost has taken them. I did get seeds though, which is exciting.

I get the most wonderful image of you and the cowgirls.....I must say I do not know much about them.
I shall have to do some research.......

I love charms........I have many.......I wonder if a charm may come your way at some point?

Happy Sunday safari and happy walks, enjoy the colour of the night.

Oh - me, too, Sherry! I want to be a Cowgirl with spurs and a lariat to rope the moon. I rode the porch bannister when I was a little girl using an old rug as a saddle. I had a red felt cowgirl outfit with plastic fringes. Thanks for the memory! (The cardinal photo is spectacular, but all the birds and bees are special.)

Hi Sherry,
Lovely photos and thoughts! I can identify with your inner cowgirl; there's a romance about that life which completely ignores the heat, cold, and dust, at least to me!
Hope you have time to come for a walk with me...

I was a Cowboy when I was young. I always wanted to be a boy when I was young. I made everyone call me Bill or I wouldn't answer them. I got over that pretty quick though. I collect charms too Sherry. You have some really interesting books lined up here to read. I hope my library has these. The Main Street here in Vincennes was the path that buffalo used to cross the Wabash River while migrating west so I have been told. Your November theme looks like lots of fun.

I especially love the pictures of the leaf with the Goldenrod and the Flicker. So beautiful!

Annie Oakley was an incredible shot. Her reflexes were superhuman.

Such a fabulous post Sherry! I will look for "The Cowgirl Way" ~ I love the Yellow-shafted Flicker and little Nuthatch, we have them in our garden too :-)

I used to watch Dale Evans as a girl, too, Sherry. But I think rather than rope a cow, I just wanted to be able to sing like her.

I don't like the early nightfall with the time change, but the mornings are wonderful with plenty of time to watch the birds.

Enjoy your cowgirl adventures!

Dear Sherry, I somehow didn't 'see' you as a cowgirl, that is fascinating :)

Your photos are beautiful again, I do love to see your birds and other creatures. Our Nuthatch looks so much like yours, I have never had one in my garden but would love to. The Northern Flicker is a very striking looking bird, I am assuming it is a member of the Woodpecker family.

I thought I had commented on your last post, I think I may have reviewed my comment and forgotten to hit the publish button :( I did enjoy it though especially the piece about the Praying Mantis, that was very interesting.

Happy November to you Sherry :)

Happy trails to you...keep smiling until then.... (or something like that.) I loved Roy Rodgers and Dale Evans too. Loved her outfits and kind-looking face, and the song at the end of the show.
I think in almost every little girl there lurks the desire to be a cowgirl. Have fun, Sherry!
