Sunday Safari

We woke before dawn.

We went out to the deck to see
 Venus and Jupiter with the
waning crescent moon.

I watered the seedlings
first thing.

I removed the tall toms I had soaking overnight.
I will fill the pots with soil and more zinnia seeds.
Zinnias will be wonderful butterfly food come August.

We have two 20 gallon tubs filled with water
on the deck.
We are dechlorinating the water
for our hand watering.

The butterflies are out early
in the day.
Our lows are in the 70's.
Highs are once again in the upper 90's
 and into the 100's.

I checked the Fig garden.
The Figs are doing just fine in the heat.
I think we will have a nice crop come September.

The gourds are beginning to form.
I am very excited.
They will stay on the trellis until
next April.

Still we have had no rain.

The birds find ways to stay cool in the heat.

After watering the plants and refilling the bird and bug's
water dishes I sat with the birds.

By 9am I was inside.

I am enjoying my inside time this summer.
I am adjusting to the heat and dryness.
I made garden potato salad and lemon sorbet.

I am falling in love with my handmade life.
It is a simple life.  It is the life of a gardener.
Happy Sunday Safari.

Good Morning Sherry,

Indeed, a simple life, is the best life.

The birds are so pretty.....I love little hummingbird. I expect they enjoy the heat.
I am sorry the rains have not come to you.....I believe the weather will change next week. The jet stream is slowly moving apparently.
Perhaps you will have some rain and I will have summer :)

Your pots look pretty.....you tend your garden well.
I have long grass.....it is too wet and boggy to mow.
It will be a task cutting it when the time comes.

Happy Sunday Safari.....

Early morning is the perfect time to enjoy the garden and wildlife. By 8AM it's getting hot here, too. I'm not sure what kind of butterfly that is in your first photo of butterflies, but it's so beautiful.

The rain dragons poured down on us for awhile Saturday, such a welcome relief, if only briefly. I hope they find their way to your house soon, Sherry.

Best time to be up is before sunup. Great shots Sherry. We got a pop up shower. Yay... We only need 12 more inches. ha... Must keep one's sense of humor even if it is true. Love seeing all your birds.

What a beautiful post, SherryQ. The photos take my breath away---and oh, my, yes, you have lots of seedlings--they delight me and want to send me rushing outside to fill pots with soil and seeds. :) I am disappointed that I did not awaken before dawn on Sunday to see the Waning Moon and Jupiter and Venus...I slumbered while beautiful treasures passed me by... Thank you for sharing The Simple Life.

Hello Sherry, The butterflies and birds always look like they're posing just for you. I can grow zinnias from seed in Denver, but here in the mountains I have no luck even with plants. It may be too cool for them. Yesterday, we finally had a soaking rain. The forest smelled so good this morning when I walked. The lemon sorbet sounds delicious. Keep cool!

Dear Sherry, The simple life suits me best... it always has.

Your seedlings look wonderful, you are obviously caring for them well despite the conditions. Your birds and butterflies are as lovely as always as are your photos.

I have never been good at mornings but I think in those temperatures my body might find a new way. I think you are wise to make the most of your early hours and I know your lovely collection of books will keep you well occupied in the hotter part of the day.

We are promised Summer next week...at last!

I've missed my visits here. Love this post! We water our bees, but during the hottest days I see honeybees in our birdbath. I've been putting extra containers of water out too.. shallow & w/ stones. Great idea about the zinnias. I have a nice wagonload now, in spite of the heat. But, I should be starting refills! Living simply is the best! Stay cool! -Tammy

Sherry, I love that first shot of the moon and the planets! I didn't know figs could grow in the States! Why do you leave the gourds on the trellis all winter?
