Awww, Sherry. I remember all of my cats and remember how each of them purred. Each had a distinctive sound. While dogs are wonderful and active companions, my cats were soothing on cool, rainy days.
Dear Nita, Kitty was the first pet I ever was honored to have. She was a stray that came to our house on a cold, snowy December night. All I had in the cupboard was Red Salmon. I gave her that and she stayed for 16 years. Other cats and dogs, birds, reptiles, rodants were part of her time with us. My pet years. When Kitty died my pet years were over. She was a very fine cat. I still love her very much. I still miss her. In October I celebrate our times together. Sherry
Dear Mary, Kitty was a wild cat! She hunted and brought home her gifts. The dogs were fun too, they required more from me than Kitty. The cats that came and went were sweet and fun. Kitty had two litters before we had her spade. Having the experience of kittens was fun for my children. As Kitty grew older she would sit with me. She napped with me and we were the best of friends. Sherry
Dear Sherry The picture of your sweet cat & your memories of her are lovely. When I read your comment to Nita, the story of your cat was very similar to mine with my cat. She followed me home from kindergarten as a little stray. It was Monday and we had roast beef left over from Sunday supper :-} She lived to be 24 ~ by then I was married and had both Kate & Alex. I still miss her. Thank you for sharing your story.
Dear Sprite, Kitty introduced me to the animal kingdom. She taught me how to be friends with animals. She taught the nuances of behavior and what they meant. She died on my lap. It was an honour to be with her as she passed beyond the veil. She taught me about dying gracefully. She was an excellent teacher. So glad you also have cat friends. They give comfort and joy. Purrrr, Sherry
Dear Deb, I so love your story of your cat. She lived a very long life! My Kitty lived for 16 years. You have Benny now and he is a fine dog. Different from a little stray that you held and loved as a child. Remembering the loved animals brings them back in a certain sort of way. Missing them is part of the poignancy of October. We have so many shared experiences. Loving a stray cat is a dear one. Sherry
Dear Sheila, Our animal friends are important family members. When my children were growing up we had all sorts of pets. As a child I did not have pets, not even fish! My husband grew up with cats and dogs so he knew how to care for them. When Kitty came he taught me. Kitty was my first and my last pet. I loved her very much. Still do! Sherry
Dear Sprite, Muffin! Such a sweet story of love and companionship. I can feel how important she was/is for you. You will see her and be with her again. Thank you for returning to this post and sharing Muffin with us. I have enjoyed hearing about other's cats. I like how we can come together here at Corner. I reread comments. I imagine I am having a cup of tea with each person that visits. Many people do come to Corner. Not every one leaves a comment. I understand that. Maybe they are deep in thought. Maybe they are remembering a cat they loved. Meow! Sherry

I had a black cat almost just like this one, her name was Happy Cat. I loved her so much. She died a couple of years ago. xo Nita

Sherry,
I love your pictures of 'Kitty.'
I adore my cats, one sleeps next to my pillow, and I can hear her purr through my pillow. It is so very comforting.
I adore the rain...

Dear Mari-Nanci,
Thank you. I keep a photo of Kitty in my travel room. She sometimes seems so close. She was a member of our family.

I have photos of my dear departed kitties too. They were a very important part of our family.

Dearest Sherry,
All the wonderful kitty stories made me want to share my story of my little 'muffin.'
She came to me on a cold February Day in 1989, we thought she was about 2 years old. She was freezing and starving, and had lost part of her ear.
She was the love of my life, and passed into spirit in April of 2005. I still miss her every day.
Surely I will one day see her in heaven.
I love to hear all the rescue stories. We have rescued all of our animals, and I treasure them so.
Thank you for this loving post and allowing everyone to share.
Much love~
