Box Elder Bug

The Box Elder bug

was perched on the leaf of the Mexican Sunflower.

Her nymphs were emerging.
They congregated on the stem of the Butterfly Weed.

The Butterfly Weed
is setting seeds.

I shall gather some to sow next year.

I haven't seen a box elder bug in years, and I've never seen the nymphs before. My first butterfly weed is just beginning to bloom. I will have to check for some seeds.

Thanks for helping to identify some of my insects & butterflies!

Dear Deb,
I am just wild for the bugs right now. I guess I know winter will come and I will be lonely for them!

Dear Rose,
You are welcome! I think you would enjoy a butterfly field guide. I use mine all the time.
It is seed gathering time now. The butterfly weed is a perennial but I want to winter sow the seeds and start more plants for another garden area.

Dear Cheryl,
It is very nice for me to feel the hope of Spring. It is strange how this is happening for me. Being in my gardens daily and seeing the different creatures is inspiring me for next year...like when I was young. I like the feeling.

I remember when I was younger huge congregations of box elders on the "box elder" trees.

I like the seed shot at the end...it looks so wispy and delicate.

Dear Chris,
Knowing the different bug's names is a wonderful way to begin getting to know them. I am just fascinated by all of them.
Like the birds and flowers knowing the bugs is knowing a beautiful part of nature.
I just ordered six more Dragonfly books.
I have been collecting seed as long as I can remeber. I think seeds are beautiful!
