I love the caterpillar pictures. He (I personify all caterpillars even though I know they are genderless) is so content! Ah, to eat and frass all day. What a life that must be!

Sherry-It's not nice to paint yellow dots on the caterpillar ;)

Well the first picture looks like it was hand painted

Happy new caterpillar moon to you too!
Your pics are so clear and vibrant. I agree with mimi- he does look content. Or maybe it's a great-grandmother caterpillar! LOL.
Lovely post.

Oh, he is such a nice looking caterpillar... they're markings are so striking. You've certainly captured him beautifully.

Lovely!

Beautiful photos! I agree with Cathy that the first photo looks like a painting.

This caterpillar looks like it is velvet Sherry. I want to pet him. His scent protection glands would pop up if I did though. I have tried to take pictures of them before. I bet you could get great pictures of them. How is that for a challenge??

Dear Mimi,
I also love caterpillar pics. I do not know when a butterfly becomes male or female. I would think somewhere in the egg stage.
Being a caterpillar does sound like a good life, although I think they have to be aware, lots of birds like caterpillar lunch!

Dear Cheryl,
Yes, this Black Swallowtail caterpillar was in my stand of Queen Ann's Lace. I also have fennel and parsley planted as host plants. I hope to see lots of caterpillars this year, since a new moon has been named for them.
Thank you for happy New Moon wishes...I loved having a new, New Moon to name! Lots of fun.

Dear Cathy,
LOL...
The light was just perfect! My husband thinks this picture looks as if the caterpillar has ribbons wrapped around her.
Her dots are so bright they do look like paint!

Dear Lisa,
I will see what I can do. I normally do not bother the bugs but we will see. I am getting a new macro lens next week so maybe then I will play with a few bugs. I do not want to harm them...
Petting a caterpillar sounds so lovely and I am sure I could be gentle and not hurt the little cat...
