Sunday Safari

A Great Spangled Fritillary

nectared in the butterfly garden.
The host plant for these butterflies is the garden violet.
Many of these charming plants grow wild in my yard.

Today we welcome August.
We celebrate Lammas, Ladymass, first harvest.

These are ancient festivals.

Often State Fairs are in August.

The Surprise Lilies

create bouquets in the garden.

I am home today.

Staying cool and

enjoying the bugs in my
backyard.

These are sunflower days.

Days full of art

and inner beauty.

These are days filled with patterns

and wonder.

We are making hummus from scratch today.

We are having our Lammas Feast.

I have been seeking inspiration.

I am learning new techniques.

I rest in the heat of the day.

I am respectful.

 I am mindful.

Happy August.
Happy Sunday Safari.

Dear Sherry......ah, Christina Rossetti, my mothers favourite poet. She loves her work.....I will have mothers poetry books one day.

Van Gogh is Rileys favourite artist and sunflowers his very favourite painting......we were only speaking about it the other day.

Your garden is full of life, so many beautiful insects, and many lovely blooms.

They say it is good to rest in the day, it restores the spirit. I have never been able to do this......but Mr P loves a power nap if he gets the opportunity, which isn't very often.

I spent time with my brother yesterday.....he had made crudites and dips. One was hummous based.......I eat a lot of chick peas, they are one of my favourite things. We spent a lovely few hours.....he is now into healthy eating, so we walk the same path. He is an excellent cook.

Stay cool!!!
Beautiful safari.....

Looking at your sunflowers made me think - it is August already? Didn't I just take a pic of the neighbours lovely sunflowers? Well, that was last year!

Enjoy your pampering. It sounds divine! Resting is important, especially on a hot summer day. Hummus is delicious! So many good things in this post.
Happy Lammas

What a wonderful post..
Thank you!!

The many great gardens of the world, of literature and poetry, of painting and music,
of religion and architecture, all make the point as clear as possible: The soul cannot
thrive in the absence of a garden. If you don't want paradise, you are not human;
and if you are not human, you don't have a soul.
- Thomas Moore,
The Re-Enchantment of Everyday Life, 1996, p. 101

Enjoyed seeing the Fritillary. Don't think we have that one in my area.

I miss my sunflowers but the little green beetles got so bad on them that I decided to stop growing them a while and see if the bug population decreased.

Sherry, you are going to be busy! My favourite photo this time around is the first one, with the painted lady! I love the light coming through the petals of the flower!!

happy August indeed.
so many wonderful things in this post! I still completely consider this summer, but I can feel autumn in the whispers of the wind, in the nodding of the grasses, in the coolness of the night. Everything that lives wants to fly, ummmm.
