Chatting

I sat with Mockingbird this afternoon,
or should I say he sat with me?
I chatted about all sorts of things.
He did not seem to mind.

Many birds were out today.
The sun was bright and the overnight snows began to melt
as the temperature rose into the 40's.

I was talking with Mockingbird about my plans for the up coming week.
I want to sweep the deck and pack up the February decorations.
I am thinking about beginning my Spring cleaning.

One thought led to another and I got up just to see
if any of the crocuses had begun to emerge.

A tip of a daffodil in the front flower bed.
It is not Spring yet.
Just a promise made.

Its great seeing the flowers already popping up and I love your photos as always! How great to have the sun out with the warmer temps!

My daffodils are probably up 6" now. I am hoping and praying we don't have a late deep freeze like last year. Love your birdies! :c)

I am surprised that the Mocker wasn't telling you a just what to do. They are so bossy. Now that little chickadee is always full of neighborhood gossip. :)

I will have to get out to see if my crocus are up yet. I am worried that something has happened to them. You daffodils look about like mine.

I think we're both nuts. I was talking to my Mockingbird yesterday, too. They listen and seem to understand. We both speak good bird.

Dear Tom,
I need a break from the cold!
A long break of ten months would be nice!
It is great to see the crocuses begin to emerge. Wildflowers have a ways to go yet. I love going to the woods and seeing the spring wildflowers.
Hope you were not hit too badly with the big snow storm I heard about.

Dear Jayne,
Your daffs are much farther along than mine. I think you are just enough south to make the difference. I too hope hard freeze doesn't come and nip your spring!
Last year was devastating!
Thinking warm thoughts for you and your birds and flowers.

Dear Lisa,
Mockingbird has really sweetened up since he has eaten so many raisins this winter. He is not as aggressive. I would think as soon as his mate arrives he will become rather bullish.
I hope your crocuses are okay. I look forward to them every year.
Once the snows are over I have lots of garden clean up to do.
Snow is in our forecast for this evening...I am very winter weary.

Dear Mary,
Learning bird speak is a whole different language for sure!
The birds are good listeners.
You also know dog speak.
It has been many years since I shared my home with dogs and cats.
Mockingbird sits on the arm of my husband's steamer when he is not outside and will cock his head and look at me. He gets a raisin or two and sometimes has a chrip.
I love him! He is so friendly!

The first signs of Spring are always so exciting! Little crocus and daffodils in the garden just breaking through the soil - real little teasers :-} I wish I had a Mockingbird in my garden to talk to :-}

Dear Deb,
They are exciting! As you said, real teasers! Rain changing to snow is suppose to come in this afternoon. I am glad I went looking for signs of spring. Just knowing activity is happening gives me energy.
Jax may get jealous if you started talking with Mocking Birds! LOL
Stay warm.
We both can at least dream of spring.

Beautiful! I'm so excited! Still have two feet of snow on the ground here so have no idea what's going on underneath but the forecast is for a couple of 40 degree days this week, so maybe... Great post!

Seeing the promise of Spring there made me smile. Last year & now this, the Jonquils have come up now & been flowering just as we go into Autumn. It is as if they are confused!
Perhaps all the rain we are having has forced them into growth!

Dear Sue,
You were buried in snow! Down to two feet?? I hope the 40's take care of the remaining snow and begin to give you a break from the cold. I hope we have a few weeks of 40-50's. I need the sunshine and I am rather tired of the bundling up!
If I can find a wee bit of hope to pass I feel as if I did my service for the day. Looking forward to March.

Oh how lovely indeed.
The thoughts of Spring send my heart soaring.

Dear Mari-Nanci,
Thank you! A promise of spring is a grand promise.
I see I have had a few attempts by someone to spread a virus. I do not know how to delete the offending comments. I have tried all sorts of things but to no avail.
Thank you for your heads up.

Dear Jeanne,
Spring and rebirth! I am looking at brillent blue skies this morning and just a dusting of snow. The big storm went north and east of me. It is nice to see sunshine.

Dear Meggie,
Your Jonquils are very confused!
Did they bloom in spring as well?
Mine need the cool down of winter to bloom. You have had the rains and the heat. Seeing your flowers all winter has kept my spirits up.

No signs of green spikes here at our house, yet. Snowing again today and in 20's.

We saw Eagles on the Mississippi, Sunday. I thought of you Sherry. These beautiful birds were a sight to see and there were Pelicans as well. Also lots of photographers lined up all along the rock wall. The weather was great that day. Sunny and mid 30's.

Lovely pics of first signs of spring, Sherry. Those dreaded slugs have been at our daffodils again :-(

Glad to see you have the little signs of spring appearing. It gives one hope of what is to come.
At last the sun has shone for you.

Q said...

Dear Pat,
The Eagles are so majestic! I too would have had the tripod out!
Squaw Creek is a Federal Wildlife Reserve in the Northwest corner of Missouri. It is about a 2 1/2 hour drive for us. The eagles over winter there as do the swans. All sorts of water fowl migrate through Squaw Creek. If you ever have the chance to go I think you would love it. Never dissapointing! I watched Pelicans last Autumn at Squaw Creek for hours. They are incredible.
Warmer temperatures are slowly coming. I do not mind a slow spring this year. Last year she came in too fast and too soon. I like the leisurely approach the best.
Stay warm! Spring is just around the corner now. You will be seeing signs too.
Sherry

Dear Chris,
Oh no! The dreaded slugs! I am wondering who eats slugs? Surely there is a bird that likes them!
I understand the dissapointment of slugs eating daffodils. Darn it!
You have been looking forward to the daffodils. Humm...we will have to do a search and see if we can find an organic way of getting the slugs gone. Maybe Cheryl knows. She lives in Kent.
I will ask her if she has slugs and what she does.
Hugs,
Sherry

Q said...

Dear Cheryl,
The sunshine is so much better than cold and gray.
Chris is having slug trouble. Do you have slugs in your gardens? If so what do you do? I have read about different organic ways but I also have read they really do not work very well. I do not have slugs, or so few it is no trouble.
If you have any ideas let me know. I will pass any info on to Chris.
Her area is rather moist as I think yours is too.

Dear Readers,
I have been having some spam in comments. So for a little while I am going to moderate the comments. Hope this is no problem for you.
I was just going to ignore them but there is a concern someone could click on one and have a virus. Some blog "spring cleaning" is in order.
Sherry

Good idea about moderating, Sherry. Disgusting that we must do it but...it's not an inconvenience. I do mine that way, so it's very easy to destroy inappropriate 'stuff'.

Dear Sue,
Every now and again I guess it is a good idea to pick up trash here on Corner as well as in the front yard.
