Harvest Gifts

Our daughter sent gifts
wrapped so lovely we waited a few days to open.

She knitted me a hat

and for her Dad a neck warmer.
She took to knitting.
She made the buttons from a twig.
She is very cleaver.

I wore Owly hat this morning

when I went walking.
She is a perfect fit.

The air was cool and

the sky clear.

The leaves are at peak color.

Back home I found a Katydid on my chair

and a mantis in the cosmos.

I slipped a vanilla bean
into my mug of coffee and sat with the birds and the bugs
while I read my book.

It did not end well for the fly.

The Red Breasted Nuthatch
has returned.

I am so happy to see him.
The Juncos have also returned.

I said goodbye to the Monarchs.
I think their time with me is drawing to a close.
The wind is to shift to the north tonight.
I suspect I will have many days to wear
Owly hat.

Your daughter has inherited some creativity, it seems. She sends these gifts just in time for the North wind. I love the bugs - especially the Mantis. It's snowing (hard!) here in Breckenridge.

Your daughter has your gift of making beautiful things. Love the owly hat and neck warmer. We about blew away here yesterday. The good thing is that we finally got about a half inch of rain. Yay!!

A lovely post and photos again Sherry. Your daughter has your creative gene :) What lovely presents and so beautifully wrapped too!

I love your bugs and the name Katydid is such fun :) It reminds me of the childhood books I loved so much.

Mary Howitt is one of my favourites, I have a book of her work, it is taken straight from the original though and some of the pages are a little difficult to read.

I enjoyed your Sunday Safari also, with the pretty little Chipmunk and the birds, such a lovely photo of the cardinal.

What lovely gifts! I didn't see the owls in the pattern of the hat at first, but when I looked closer (to see why it was an "owly" hat), it was such a delightful surprise. The twig buttons on the neck warmer are ingenious. The fall photos are gorgeous, too. The illustrations in the picture book remind me of those in Nicholas Cricket by illustrator William Joyce.

What a lovely hat, Sherry; I love the owls on it! Your daughter is very thoughtful, and I can see she inherited your creative talents. I will be looking for the nuthatches and juncos, too--then I'll know for sure that winter is near.

Good morning Sherry, your daughter is gifted in her crafting....I cannot imagine where she gets that from !!!!
Beautiful gifts, and exquisitely wrapped.....I seem to remember sandwiches that had been wrapped so carefully I did not want to open them.....

I know you will use your gifts well and appreciate the love and care that went into making them.

I love the story of the spider and the fly. My mother would tell me the story over and over again when I was small.

Yes autumn is in full swing.....harsh frosts have hit the garden whilst I was on holiday. Marigolds, cosmos, fuchsia etc are gone..... grasses, seedheads and leaves dominate.

Say goodbye to the monarchs for me. They gave me such joy during my visit with you.

Have a lovely weekend.
