even though scattered frost is in the forecast.
The skies are clear.
The sun warm.
We helped another Black Swallowtail
find sweet nectar.
The bittersweet has opened.
I have decorated the house with
many swags.
There are bees and wasps
about.
A Chinese Mantis is
hunting in the mums.
My neighbor had a wood fire
burning in his fireplace this morning.
It is the smell of October.
My friend recommended a novel.
I am almost finished.
It has been a page turner.
We are having much fun
celebrating October.
Happy Sunday Safari!

Just yesterday I noticed that the leaves are beginning to fall. I will have to get out and check our bittersweet to see if it is opening. I can't see it from the house. I thought of you today when we were out birding. The wind was blowing and I wished that I had a kite to fly...
I would love to read that book! And I've enjoyed the safari tonight! Our hummers have gone! But I haven't noticed if the bittersweet has opened! Hopefully I'll get to the park to walk this week and check on it! Enjoy your evening! ♥
Gorgeous words and pictures. The Chinese Mantis has a totally fascinating face and the third photo is stunning - I love the abstract beauty. A wonderful Sunday read/view - thank you!
Great post! I love the pictures:)/Maria
I thought of you and your gardens yesterday. I can see both so clearly now. For me that is such a pleasure and an absolute gift. Thank you.
I think of hummers and swallowtails often. I will always associate them with you.
Your images as always are so beautiful.
Autumn has without doubt arrived here. The continous rain is making the gardens lush and green. This is usual for my part of the world.
I watched a little carder bee in and out of the flowers all day. I kept checking her to make sure she was not too cold. They are such workers, so stoic. I have such a love of the bees........perhaps I was a bee in a previous life? Ha!
Happy October and have a peaceful and happy week.....
Can see you in those dark rimmed glasses and white coats. Ha! So funny.......
There are upsides to Autumn but I must confess that I see Winter approaching too close behind. Cheery Autumn pictures do help though!
Ah how I have missed coming here and seeing all the wee wings! It is amazing how quickly the summer passed! Soon I will hear the sound of the waves and the call of the seagull as I explore my new adventure my new town my new home! Good to be back visiting!hugs Anna
You still have hummers? Lucky you. I love those little birds. Your pics are beautiful. October is surely here. Pumpkins not far behind.
Hugs
So good to see the hummingbird and the swallowtails still visiting your garden, Sherry. I took my hummingbird feeder down this weekend--I think mine have all left for warmer climes already. Butterflies are also less noticeable. We've had a light frost the last two mornings, so autumn is definitely here--a fire in the fireplace sounds so cozy right now.
I've read a few of Anne Perry's mysteries and do like them. Enjoy these cooler days of October!
Your Goldfinch in Winter colours actually looks rather like our female Chaffinch!
The Black Swallowtail is so beautiful but those little hummers take my breath away with their delicate beauty.
The scents of Autumn are my favourite. Woodsmoke is delicious.
We have had light frosts this week, but tomorrow will be warm again.
Enjoy your books!
xx
Sherry, you take exquisite photos, especially of the birds and insects!!
Though your hummingbirds remain, your landscape is looking more and more like fall is taking over. Happy October to you, too.
