Manti, My Friend

It would have been just fine with me if she came in. The Ficus Tree could use a good cleaning. I could have opened the door for her.
She and I had an eye to eye chat about inside or outside.

I had seen a male in the ivy and I knew Manti had eggs to lay.
Maybe later in the season she could come in for awhile. I will be bringing in the six planter boxes of Scented Geraniums soon. There could be a bug or two for her to clean off of them.

Hi Saucy,
The Praying Mantis can seem scary but is a friend of the garden. They eat all sorts of harmful bugs as does the Lady Beetle.
I have been known to bring a Mantis in come Autumn to help get the bugs off of the plants I bring in. The Mantis has a short life span so will die after frost outside and inside only a few weeks after that.
I think they are very cool looking and am so pleased to have photos this year. They are ancient bugs.

Dear Sprite,
Over the years I have made friends with many a Manti! This one came in early summer and I have seen her off and on all season. With her laying eggs I do hope we will be able to make friends with her off spring. I watch the Praying Mantis grow up from tiny green babies to full brown adults.
Some folks talk with the animals I talk with the plants and the bugs!
