Listen to that wind!

A strong southern wind blew warm
gulf air into the gardens.

Twenty-five mph winds with gusts to 40 mph
toppled deck furniture and sent temperatures into the 60's.

The birds struggled in the wind.

I watched as they fought the gusts.

I put seed in protected spots.
I want the birds to be successful.
I will do everything I can to help them.

Dear Mari-Nanci,
The Carolina Wren is a darling bird. I am smitten with them. The pair is so cute.
Very windy today. Our weather will change tonight as the winds shift and cold air comes in. Blowing snow is in the forecast for tomorrow.
I rested all weekend! I did not walk in the wind today. Thank you for checking on me. I feel much better.

Lovely to see that carolina wren. I love to enlarge your photos, & see how clear they are.
Hope you are feeling better, if you have been unwell.

Dear Meggie,
My husband encouraged me to use the large size format for posting. I was concerned that those on dial up would have a difficult time with them downloading. Clicking on them does enlarge to a huge size. Sometimes I will do the photos in such a way that they do not enlarge so big!
I was very weary last week. I feel fine just a tired spell. I posted on "Walking In Beauty" about being weary. The constant up and down of the temperatures does wear me out. Today the wind was so strong I felt tired when I came in from errands. Fighting the wind takes its toll on me. I rest when I am tired. I honor my body as best as I am able to.
Thank you for your well wishes.

Hi Sherry, That poor cardinal looks like it was blown off its perch. Our Carolina Wrens showed up today after a few days of not being around here. There were two together. Maybe our male was out rounding up a female for some spring cleaning and building a nest.

Sure doesn't feel like spring this evening. I think the wind you spoke of has arrived here now. Brrr Makes me cold just hearing it.

Take care get plenty of rest so you don't become ill.

I've never seen a Carolina Wren with its feathers ruffled. Poor things. But I know you will take good care...of yourself and the birds.

Hugs,
Mary

Dear Lisa,
The birds did have a time of it today. I so enjoy the Wrens. Seeing them togehter means nesting for sure. I bet he was off finding a mate. I love their song, very cheerful.
No spring here. The thaw and silly 60 degrees will be over tonight. Blowing snow and back to frigid temps tomorrow. Up and down we go..
The wind is howling here too.
I am resting and going to bed early. I do not want to get sick. I am drinking cold comfort tea and lots of oranges and water.
Thanks.
Stay warm.
Sherry

Dear Mary,
Fighting the wind was an ordeal for the birds today.
I am pretty good at making sure I get proper rest and food. I have a way of going to bed when I am tired. I often have concerns for the birds. Watching to make sure everyone is getting seed, water and nuts is reasuring to me. I do not often take pictures of the birds at the feeders or the seed trays but I see them get their food. The suet is a popular food source too and I replace all the suet hangers at least once a week. The "bug bites" is the favorite.
I hope you get proper rest too!
Now that your cold is gone we want it to stay gone!

I like the finch (?) reaching for the bud.
You are kind to care for them with such concern.

Great photos--they really capture the movement of the wind!

The little wings continue to amaze me as they survive in the (((cold))) temps!
What would we do without them to stare out at during the cold windy days of winter.Of course we keep feeding and feeding ..love the wee one in first image! hugs NG

Love the wren. It looks as disgruntled as I feel after two days of the same monster south wind that y'all are experiencing. Ours now has a bit of drizzle mixed in it, and by tomorrow night it's supposed to be COLD.

(Thank you for keeping the size of the photos on your posts modest. It makes life much easier for those of us who are still stuck with being connected to the Internet by a tin can and string.)

Dear Mon@rch,
Thanks, the Carolina Wren is so cute! No singing yet. Him and her hop about and have been so funny as they hunt for bugs. I did see some bugs too and watched the Mockingbird catch house flies.
I just enjoy seeing all the birds get their food!

Dear Nina,
The female Purple Finch was eating the buds in the Dogwood! "No-no those are for flowers and berries for next year!" I had all sorts of seeds out that she easily could have eaten! I put a small feeder out hoping she would leave the buds alone! I think the trees were less windy than the open deck. I grabbed a few saucers and filled them with seed. I think I might get another little feeder for the front Dogwood. It would be nice to have blooms in April!

Dear David,
Taking pictures of the wind is somewhat hard for me! I did a few trees but without birds the trees just look bare! The birds add the look of fight and their feathers tell the story!
All is calm this morning too calm!

Dear Anna,
I have to be outside with the darlings! After two or three minutes inside at the window or the door I just cannot stand it!
The birds do keep me going during the winter. Not only do they provide hours of entertainment I have a "relationship" with a few. The Mockingbird comes right up to me and gets his raisins. The Carolina Wrens like me outside so I will chase the Starlings and squirrels away. This pair of Cardinals look for me and come right to the feeders when I step out.
A few woodpeckers and Chickadees also have no fear of me. I am hoping the Red Breasted Nuthatch will learn to be comfortable. I took a nice series of pictures of them in the wind. So tiny, smaller than the Wrens.
The birds are my friends!
Hugs,
Sherry

Dear Marvin,
I am amazed the tin can and string method even works! My site is rather photo heavy! You are a gem and a patient man!
It is almost 6:30 am and 57 degrees. This is very concerning as the forecast is for a low tonight of 14 degrees. Anytime the wind will whip back up and bring sleet/snow/misery!
I have a yoga class this morning too. I do not like to drive in the sleet/snow...Yikes.
Why I signed up to leave my house in the winter is beyond me.
Stay warm and batten down the hatches. Mother Nature swept the deck yesterday and now she is getting ready to wash the windows!
Brr...

Dear Sherry
The birds know they can depend on you! You've captured the windy day beautifully in the ruffling of the little feathers.
Keep warm!

Dear Deb,
Photographing wind, when the trees are bare, was a challange. Once again the birds helped me out.
Hope you and your family had fun skiing.
Our weather is like a roller coaster; up and down and with the wind, all around.

Ah, cute - they remind me of little kids with bed hair... Glad you are somewhat rested. Tired is wearing.

Dear Sue,
Thanks. I feel better. If I get tired I just stop and rest. Not sure why I felt weary. Winter weary maybe!
I have started eating breakfast so maybe that will help. My exercise and yoga classes might also help.
The wind wears me out! I have a friend in western Kansas and her winds are just constant. Wears me out just hearing about them. Once in awhile, in the summer, a strong wind will come in and I feel so energized. Winter wind is tiring!
