Rain to light snow

Cooper's Hawk stayed in the garden
as the rain began to change to light snow.

He does not mind me being out near him.

What great shots of the Coop. He was probably wondering if you were going to get his dinner for him. :)

Coopers Hawk is full of confidence. We always know when he is near as the little birds (and even our squirrels) take cover. He is magestic and you can see the intelligence in his eyes. What a wonderful shot you got of him.

Dear Lisa,
Thank you. I went out into the cold rain to take these shots.
I read an article in Bird Watcher's Digest about a lady who put a turkey carcass out for the birds. We are vegetarians so no carcasses here but I want one! Cooper would like that.

Dear Deb,
The little birds do take cover!
I noticed when I was out the Downy Woodpeckers came to the nuts even with Cooper near. When I went in the Downy's left. Cooper stayed in the gardens for over an hour. I do not think he was hunting. I watched him preen and rest.
I am rather smitten with Cooper.
He is magestic.

Look at those tail feathers spread in the first photo! Wonderful! He didn't mind you. They are very brave, I think. Lovely post, Sherry!

Dear Mary,
I was going to walk around and get a picture of his backside with his tail feathers spread out but Coop kept turning to face me. He did not mind me being around but he did keep an eye on me!
They are brave birds.

Dear Gisela,
They are wonderful birds. This juvenile Cooper comes almost everyday here too. The adult Cooper's come off and on. He and his parents do help to keep the sparrow population in check!

Great photos up close and personal of the Coopers Hawk in this and the last post! One sits on my fence daily watching the little ones feed at the feeders...I dare NOT interfere as you know what happens..pickins must be scarce in my area for these hawks...too too much developement!!!

Dear Anna,
I too think Cooper's Hawk being in my backyard so much has to do with development. Another wild area became houses a few years ago and I think food is scarce for the Hawks. Lots of sparrows around the feeders and bushes. I do not intervene either. Coop needs to eat too. I would put out a little something for him but we are vegetarians. No turkey carcasses at my house!
They are beautiful birds.
