Blue Jay Way

There are two pairs of Blue Jays
that come into the garden.

It is very cold this morning, 6 degrees.
The sun makes it possible for me to be outside.

I refilled all the feeders and bundled up.

Wrapped in my blankets and sipping my coffeee

I was comfortable for half an hour.

I placed an order for a silk balaclava
and silk glove liners.
I do not like to be cold.
I want to be outside for at least an hour!

Wonderful wonderful photos, Sherry. You have the touch to take a photo at just the right second! Silk sounds just the thing, natural fibres are the best for comfort. Stay warm and dry. Your birds must be best friends :-)

Dear Chris,
The Blue Jays always look "cold" to me! Maybe because of their blue and white. Sometimes I am able to get the birds in flight. I liked this series because it showed them in relationship. The Jays do not normally feed together so this was fun.
I try very hard only to buy all natural fibers. Silk is my favorite. A silk-wool blend is nice and warm. I have a few pieces of Alpaca fiber things. So soft and lovely.
The birds are my friends. I spend as much time as I can outside with them.
Hope you are dry! Lots of rain for you this winter.

Wow! Amazing how you managed just in time to take the picture of the landing bird! Beautiful pictures which I like very much!

Such a wonderful picture - capturing the Blue Jay as he prepares to land! Apart from the occassional sparrow, our garden has been very quiet today. Cold and windy and snowy again.

Wonderful photos, again.Wool is very warm, but sometimes can cause allergy itching. Our grandson cannot wear it.
Keep warm!

Dear Barbara,
I was watching this pair of Blue Jays and thought maybe, if I was lucky, I could get a picture of one of them in flight.
I was rather excited when I did.
This worked out nicely with one at the bowl and the other coming in.
The light was excellent this morning.
Glad you enjoyed this little essay.

Dear Deb,
The sun was worth 20 degrees this morning! I watched the Cardinals too and almost worked on "in flight" with them before deciding on the Jays. The Jays look cold!
Hope you are staying warm.

Dear Meggie,
Wool can be itchy for some. Blended with silk I think it is very warm. I have a few socks made from bamboo fiber which is soft and nice.
Glad you liked these pictures. I do like to take photos. It is just so fun!

Blue Jays are not that easy to photograph! Well for me at least you really make it look simple!

Blue Jays are one of my favorite birds. I really like the way you captured the one flying in to the feeder. Stay warm...

The cold really does put a cramp in our styles, doesn't it? But you still deliver a wonderful treat for us. I am not as persistent as you.

Wonderful.

Dear Monarch,
I was concerned, shooting into the snow! When I saw the shadows I thought I would be just fine. The Blue Jays reflect light and can be tricky. I keep hoping I will see some new species. Until Spring I might work on "birds in flight." Always good to hone my stop action skills. I like the close up shots of the birds, I guess I can do both!

Dear Cat,
Thank you. I did a series of Chickadees too today. Some nice shots of them going in and out of a small feeder. The birds don't mind me too much as long as I am quiet and they can get to their seed. Thank you! Glad you enjoyed these.

Dear Lisa,
I think the Blue Jays are very beautiful. They can be agressive but the other birds figure it out. Sometimes the Jays give the warning call when the Hawks are about. Glad you enjoyed this essay.

Dear Mary,
If I could sit outside all day with the birds I would! Adding a few more warm things to my wardrobe will help. I also think taking a carafe of hot tea outside with me would be a good thing. I like to have my beverage while I "work"!
I had slipped an extra battery into my pocket before I went out and I was glad I did. I needed it right before I took the Jay in flight shot!
Winter can be beautiful.
Thanks.

The jays look gorgeous, great photos.
Do these birds mate for life..?
I have noticed pairs here too, but not since it got really cold.

Just lovely Sherry. The blue of the jays against the sky... stunning.

Dear Sheila,
Thank you. Some are monogamous and pair for life. We have had one pair here for many years. The second pair came last year. I know they are nest robbers and hope the Robins build their nests in safe places this coming spring.
Your Jays are most likely away looking for food. You do have snow! Wow.
Stay warm and safe.

Dear Jayne,
Often around my area people do not like the Blue Jays. I guess they can be a bother robbing nests and such. I happen to think they are pretty. Maybe if I keep the peanuts going in the spring they will leave the Robin's nests alone.

Excellent, Sherry, especially the jay in flight.

Dear Marvin,
Thank you. I also enjoy the "birds in flight" photos. I never feel as if I can get them perfect. I will keep after it.
