What a great range of interesting (and for me also unknown) birds which you "captured" in your beautiful pictures.

What a nice portrait of the Junco in that last picture. It almost looks like a stuffed bird it is so perfect.

Everyone who thinks, "oh, it's just a Junco", needs to see these photos - what real beauties, they are!

Dear Lisa,
In January I celebrate the Penguins! I am so amazed by them. I love them very much. When I saw the Junco looking "Penguinish" I was so tickled. When my husband saw this series of Junco photos he encouraged me to do a quick post.
I have a saying, "Penguins are good."
Now, "Juncos are good" too.

Dear Barbara,
These birds may not be in Europe. I am unfamiliar with your birds too.
The Slate-Colored Junco also called Dark-eyed Junco, are small
5"-6" birds. They are winter birds in my area. Come spring they will return to their northern homes. In my backyard there is a small flock of about a dozen birds. I think they are very charming. My Sibley Guide to Birds calls them "small sparrows". They have a sweet little song and call.
They are rather common in my area but I think they are darling. Friendly too. One Junco comes right up to me. I look forward to them returning in the Autumn and when they leave I know Spring is really here!
Glad you enjoyed this little series of photos. I will look for a book about birds in Europe and begin learning! Maybe you will post a few photos of birds in your area? That would fun.

Dearest Mary,
Juncos are so very good!
It was simply serendipity that you left a comment on my last post while I was posting this series.
LOL!
Seeing the beauty in the "ordinary" is what we are all about. My daughter taught me that when she was a little girl.

I always have a hard time capturing these guys in the right lighting! You did an amazing job! Bravo

Dear Monarch,
Lighting is the key. I was pleased with the Junco shots. They often reflect too much.
Thanks. I am slowly getting it.

These photos make me feel I can almost read the birds thoughts!
Wonderful!
There are a lot of birds here, but they are hard to photograph.

Dear Meggie,
The birds can be so fast. I find if I sit quietly with them after awhile they forget I am there. They seem to be more interested in the other birds than me.
Some of the birds "know" me and will come to my window ledge if they want seed or water or in Mockingbird's case raisins.
They are so lovely and make winter a pleasurable time of year.

Your bird pictures are so amazing. I can never get enough light to show the Junco's dark eyes. It really frustrates me not to see the eyes clearly in my pictures.

Dear Robin,
I understand! I also like to see the bird's eyes crisp and clear. The Juncos are close so that helps. Sometimes I do "portrait" shots like these.
Glad you enjoyed these pictures. Juncos can be hard to photograph.
