I have begun the Gourd Harvest.
The vines and leaves on the deck I will leave. The leaves are getting old and will drop soon leaving the gourds to hang and ripen. I will leave them all winter.
The gourds on the willow trellis I have begun to cut for inside. These will ripen on this stand on the hearth. Some will go into a basket others are for treats for my visitors. I have lots of gourds this year.
The leaves will stay green for about a week and I will have the dried vines and tendrils for decoration. We dyed these ripened gourds and cut them out a few years ago. I shall let many gourds ripen outside on the vine. They will become scoops and bird houses next spring.
