We need reminders of beauty today.
They certainly are afternoon delights! Wow, do you have a lot of butterflys in your garden. Do you do anything to draw them there?
I want to keep hummingbirds year-round. And the butterflies, too. They lift me up!

Dear Sandy,
I do have butterflies!! I love them...
I am an organic gardener so they like my flowers! I also have been learning about the different host plants and nectar plants the different species, that could come into my yard, like. I have been planting for the butterflies for many years. After last spring, when I lost so many plants, I decided to create a full butterfly habitat in my yard. I put out rottening fruit for some and continue to plant. I just planted ten Spicebushes for the Spicebush Swallowtails. I also planted a Paw-paw tree for the Zebra Swallowtails. I would like to plant more of those as one will never be enough. I learned the Giant Swallowtail likes the Prickly Ash tree. I am looking for three of them to put in the yard. My husband told me he will build me a wood pile so some of the butterflies that need that for over wintering will have a spot.
I hope to continue learning and providing as the habitats for the butterflies are slowly eroding away as new houses and shopping malls go in.

Dear Mary,
Me too! I asked my husband if he thought it would be okay to invite a female black Tiger Swallowtail in for the winter. He thought it would be fine. So I have this idea that I can grow some plants she would like inside this year. I will see if it works out. Butterflies in the house sound so happy....
Hummers in the house could be messy. I guess if the males came too and we had humming bird dipers...maybe it is best to let them migrate and love them from afar...or travel to see them in January! I like that idea!

Dear Nita,
The female Hummingbird can feed and build up her strength before heading south now. She was successful raising her young and now she can relax a wee bit.
I am very fond of this bird. Whenever I see her I just smile.
I enjoy watching her in the different flowers too.

While I am organizing and putting the momentos from my trip away my daily walk in beauty is in my own back yard. September is somewhat busy as I have plants to get ready for wintering over.
There is an inner walk as well. These photos are about that inner walk. My posts for 9/11 were about the inner and outter way in which we know the world. The New Moon shines down for every one - we are equal; sadness has come to mankind through out the ages- we have compassion; beauty calms the spirit and the soul- we see that from beauty comes a gentle spirit.
We have everything we need to say, "Yes" to life.
We chop wood and carry water. We do it together.

You are so right, beauty does not take away pain. Beauty simply allows us a chance to see the bigger picture.
It would be arrogant of me to think my country is the only country in pain. When one voice cries we all cry. We truely are connected.
For some each day is a reminder of the violence humankind has experienced. Our history is not the history of a peaceful species but one of a violent species. May we change. May grace fill us with care and compassion.

I also turn to Nature to ease my burden. While in the temperate rain forest I saw how important each tiny organism is to the health of the forest. Each person is necessary for the health of our world. We must honor each other, we must come with respect. There is room in the forest for all creatures great and small, there is room at the table for everyone.
