Too wet to play

There are two female Red Bellied Woodpeckers
that are coming to the peanuts now.

Mocking Bird really does like to do the rain gauge shots.
The Blue Heron flies over twice a day.

It is raining, a gentle refreshing rain.

A good day to rest.

OMG, this is so cute. Do I see a little squirrel peeking it's head out of the birdhouse?

I'm so glad I stopped by! I popped over from Nature Trail. Your photos are beautiful! We had a Heron land in our yard last fall. We had just put in a pond, I guess it was looking for a snack!

Mocking birds! This reminds me....

We have an in-ground swimming pool in the back yard. And we've had at least one Mocking Bird, do a flying dip into it. Maybe more than one, at different times. They all look alike to me. :-)

It would swoop down and dip and swoop up again. Treating it like a very, very big bird bath. Really! We used to call it 'The Bathing Bird.'

You could notice it sitting on the fence, on one side of the pool. Then it would decide to go for it. Take off, fly and dip in, to splash the water, and fly back up and on.

Thanks for the fun memory. I must watch to see if we have any "Bathing Birds" around, this Summer.

Dear Becky,
Baby squirrel is cute! Yes, baby squirrel is in his nest in the bird house. We have another baby squirrel that is out of the nest too soon. I am feeding him on the front porch. The mother squirrel is feeding the baby in the bird house. I guess the bird house was a wee bit small for two babies. What was she thinking?

Dear Deb,
I thought of you when I took this photo! Funny Squirrels. Do you remember the photo of the Squirrel in the bird house and the Sparrows on the wire looking at the Squirrel? I kind of thought we would have a baby Squirrel in a bird house before long!

Dear Chris,
I bet you did not intend for the fish to be Heron food! I love the Blue Heron, I guess if she wanted to fish our ponds I would go buy her fish!! My husband might have a wee bit of trouble with me buying fish for Herons. As it is I feed many birds, squirrels, butterflies and bees! The food budget is in the red!

Sherry,

I love herons but I fear them, too, since they cleaned out my pond in Maryland twice! Luckily, they were only large goldfish - but - they were pets of mine.

Cute squirrel! They are genuine opportunists, aren't they?

Hi Mary,
Oh the squirrels are into everthing!
I think the babies are cute but we have lots of squirrels and I think they could spread out a wee bit more. I do go ahead and feed them hoping they will stay out of the feeders.
They don't!
So sorry the Herons ate your "pet" fish. They did not know they were off limits! Beautiful Birds! I also have old fish in the ponds. Right now I have baby fish. Too cute.
