They self sow.
I will over plant with zinnia seed for flowers in July.
The orange perennial poppies are under the back Ash tree.
I will harvest the seeds for our poppy seed breads.
They look nice with the Baltimore Orioles and the Eastern Comma butterflies.

Believe it or not I am transplanting poppy seedlings from the allotment (self seeded) to my garden :-) I hope they will take!
Now THAT'S a shot of color. I've never grown poppies. Now I have reason to remember.
I so love poppies. Can't wait for our pink ones to blossom, so I can share.
We tried for so long, to get poppies to grow here. Without luck. But finally! Finally something was just perfect {maybe the Flower Faeries finally took pity on us!} and... They grew and flourished and... We are so happy. :-)

Dear Chris,
I hope they take too.
Poppies have always been hard for me to transplant. You can sow seed in the Fall for spring blooms on the annuals.
Hope to see Poppies in your gardens soon.

Hi Mary,
These Poppies are so bright! I am rather wild about the orange and black ones. The sun was shining on them this morning and it was "WOW"!
Do plant poppies, they are lovely swaying in the breeze.

Hi Mari-Nanci,
I also had trouble growing poppies until I began sowing them the winter sowing method. After that I have had all the poppies a girl could want! I will look for your pink poppy photos soon.

I love poppies! Only have a few but I watch them carefully for the instant they burst. A granddaughter and I cut an after-bloom pod to see what was inside. She sniffed it several times, then said, 'Smells green, doesn't it?' :) I love grandkids, too!
Oh LOL!!
"Smells Green",
Dear Tumblewords,
Give that girl a hug for me!
"Smells Green" I love that.
I will smell a poppy pod and see what green smells like.
Does she know what blue smells like?
Your Granddaughter is a poet too!
Sherry
