The Orioles are waiting for me in the Ash Tree.
The rains continue.
We emptied the rain gauge last night before bed and recorded 3 inches.
By 8 am this morning we had received another 2.5 inches.
The Mockingbirds and the Robins are keeping the Starlings, Grackles and the Blue Jays out of the yard. The female Rose-breasted Grosbeak is learning the rain gauge shots.
She is a fine helper as Mockingbird is multi-tasking.
I set up a few umbrellas over some seed trays.
I know they like their food dry.
The birds are wet and singing.
Time for me to go walking in the rain.

Sherry, is it still raining out your way? We've had three days without rain here and at the lake. We're leaving Thursday for our trip to Nell Hill's in Atchison. I've heard it's to rain the rest of the week, beginning this evening!
As always I enjoyed your posts!
Pat
Back Porch Musings.
Oh Q. How lovely to put umbrellas up for the birds :-) I have just thought of Mary Poppins! You are a very special person.
Sherry, I notice the merits of the Mockers chasing Grackles and Starlings and wrote about them tonight.
You have such an array of birds!!!! I am agog every time I visit you.
Hi Pat,
It has stopped for now, but is in the forecast for the rest of the week. While walking tonight we did see stars.
Enjoy Atchison, a charming little town.
Thank you.
Sherry
Dear Chris,
I felt the birds would like the trays to be dry! All I had big enough were a few umbrellas. I have pictures of the Doves dining under the umbrellas. The photo of Mockingbird so wet and on top of the yellow umbrella I really liked. He stayed chasing away the Starlings and Grackles and Blue Jays all day.
He is a great bird.
A bird friend.
I thought of Mary Poppins the other day too. Our weather normally comes from the southwest, when the winds shifted to the East I knew rain was on the way. I could just see Mary Poppins and her umbrella flying off when the wind sifted to the east.
I like Mary Poppins and I adore Burt! chim-chimery....chim-chimery...

Dear Mary,
Hopefully I will have a hostess break tomorrow. Everyone seems to be doing just fine and after I feed the birds in the morning I will pop by to see your post.
There are other birds that come as well as the ones I post. The Chimney Swifts are back as are the Night Hawks. Both are rather difficult birds to photograph. I have a few pics but they are still high up in the air and are rather small birds. They come out at twilight and I hope come summer to have better photos.
We have lots and lots and lots of birds!
We love them, never too many as long as they all get along. I do not want birds flying into each other.
Sherry
