It has begun

The bugs are awakening. This is a Boxelder Bug.

I did some research and the link provides lots of information.

Milkweed seed is drifting in the breeze.
A crocus bloomed. The parade of flowers has begun.

I saw a butterfly today!
She was small and orange.
Now for a photo.

Wow, even your bugs are colourful. What sort of bug is this?
Enjoy your spring :-)

What wonderful photos - we will have to be a bit more patient here ... more snow is headed our way and I will have to be content with the tulips on my kitchen table for now.

Hi Chris,
I did a bit of research and posted a link. This is a Boxelder bug. Very common in my area.
I like bugs and look forward to them waking up. Wonderful food for the Wrens and Mockingbirds.
Now that I have seen a few I think I can begin my spring flower bed clean up.
I hope to be taking lots of bug photos this year!

Dear Deb,
Enjoy this end of winter time. Before you know it you will be out in the gardens.
The forced bulbs have gotten me through the cold too. I planted lots of tulips and also have some inside. They are cheerful.
Spring will come soon!

What amazing photos!! We will have LOTS of those same bugs here when it gets warmer. They are called Boxelder bugs. They love to sun themselves(by the hundreds) on my white brick house. Yuck!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and for your nice comments.

Hi Cammyk,
I hope the birds like the Boxelder bug. I only saw one today. The bug I do not like is the Squash bug. So far I have not learned of a bird that eats them! The squash bugs devour all of my pumpkins and zucchini every year! I get annoyed at them.
Hopefully the Boxelder is not a problem for you.

Beautiful photos...I've never seen a Boxelder bug, but they are absolutely stunning. I'm looking forward to the photos you'll be posting this spring of the butterflies and hummingbirds that visit your area!

Dear French Nest,
I am so glad you liked the Boxelder bug. I do hope I have lots of beautiful spring to take photos of! I never know from day to day what will be in the back yard. It is exciting to wake each morning and see what Mother Nature has to offer. Life for me is a sweet, beautiful adventure.
Fingers and toes crossed the Hummers return.

Dear Mari-Nanci,
I get so tickled by what you say!
Yes, spring will come to you soon!
A "darn it donut" on not being able to get my butterfly photo yesterday. I think when they come out so early they are looking for moisture, not nectar. I have some small puddlers out to collect rain water for the early bugs. I also put some dish gardens outside for food. Feeding the bees is fun.
The temps are to be warm all week so maybe I will be able to get my butterfly picture.
Snow is nice. It is much needed moisture. I think snow is pretty as it glitters the air.
Snow makes for some beautiful photos. I also become weary of it!
Soon you will have sprouts and bugs and bird songs.
