Common Flicker

I heard the Common Flicker
before I saw him.

The male Yellow-shafted Flicker
checked out my backyard.

I serve peanuts in the shell
all winter to the Blue Jays
and the squirrels.

I think the Flickers might like them too.

He was too shy to come to the deck.
I will set up a spot near the bittersweet for him.
A spot with some shelter.

It is exciting to see the Flickers in my backyard.
Hope they spend the winter.

What a wonderful bird the Common
Flicker is. I see the bird quite often in our parks and gardens.
They are just beautiful woodpeckers.
Cheers Gisela

Flicker is my totem animal Sherry. I love these pictures. You caught the yellow too. Excuse me while I go back to looking at these pictures.

The Common Flicker is new to our garden as well. We were thrilled to spot him two days in a row :-)

Dear Gisela,
Thank you. I see them off and on in the woods. Once before in the winter I saw a pair in my yard.
I am excited. I hope he comes back.

Dear Cheryl,
It is an honor to share this garden spot with the birds.
It is always exciting to me to see new to the yard species. Last week I saw a Nashville Warbler.
No pictures for the blog since this little guy never stopped long enough for me to get a very good picture. LOL
When I do get good pictures I am double happy!
The Fliker never came down from the pole. He did look about.

Dear Mary,
I would love for you to come sit on the deck with me!
I never know who will come for a treat. You and I would enjoy the birds and the bugs and the blooms...
Coffee or tea? or both?
Both for me.

Dear Lisa,
A fantastic totem! I read about the Flickers in my Animal Speak book.
Swan is one of mine. As is the Hummingbird...
I was so excited to see the yelow shaft! I had hoped the camera also caught it.
Maybe you will paint a Yellow-shafted Flicker for your desk? I have a few Swan things on mine.

And a slice of cheese cake :o)

Dear Mary,
I bet there is a bakery in K.C. that has organic, "healthy" cheese cake. Is that an oxymoron??
Calcium in the cake and if we had blueberries on it we'd get our anti-oxidents...sounds healthy.
Seeing you would be healthy for my soul!
