Sunday Safari

I watched the full wolf moon set this morning.

I knew it would be a sunny day.

It is still cold and some snow remains on the ground.

My bonsai, Okinawa Holly,
is in bloom.
My daughter gave me this holly in 2003.
It was a four year old bush at the time.

It is time for me to repot.

I have been dreaming this past month.
I have been reflecting.

I have been studying.

We have packed up the January decorations.

Haiku gives way to Rumi.

I will read a poem a day in February.

In the evenings we will read a story from the Arabian Nights.

February is a full month.

These are Unicorn days for me.

Our home is filled with romance.

Crystals shimmer in the sunlight.

Sonnets
and love spells are fun on
cold February nights.

It is time to care for our souls.

Time to write letters and read.

I have my Ayurveda books out.

 I travel my silk road.

I shall study Turkey and India.
We will go to the Mid-eastern market for
Turkish coffee.

I lay my French ways over my
Arabic.

I lay my hopes
on the shoulders of Anoushka Shankar.

Perhaps music will be our bridge.

I am wearing red.

It is the color of passion
and warmth.

Luna New Year begins on the second new moon after winter solstice.
This year it is on February 14th.
It will be the year of the metal tiger.

I will be watching Punxsutawney Phil.
I will make candles on Candlemas.
I will eat red beans and rice on Mardi Gras.
Goodbye January.
Hello February!
Happy Sunday Safari.

Sunday Safari

It has been a week since I sat outside with the birds.

It has been a week since the sun was out.
I was happy to see the moon.

The indoor tulips are in full bloom.

I have many pots of them.
They are cheerful.
I miss the bugs.

I am on an inner safari.
I am hunting my myths.

I have gathered my books.

I am reading

I am learning.

I am celebrating the Asian way.

Many of my traditions come from the Greek and Roman stories
yet I have fallen in love
with the dragon and the phoenix.

I was born in the year of the Water Dragon.

My birth year is called
"Dragon in the Rain"

The imagination of the myths fills my soul
with contentment.

My husband also was born in the year of the Water Dragon.

These stories are part of the puzzle of who we are.

The Dragon is the yang
the Phoenix the yin.

I look for the Phoenix.

I look for the Dragon.

I have been reading about painting on silk.
I am gathering silk.

The snows have melted.

Seed catologs are arriving.

We are talking about the gardens.

We are planning for another growing season.

I hung cherry blossom lanterns in the Ficus tree.

The clouds have come back.
These are gray January days.
I am dreaming of Dragons
and Spring rain.

Happy Sunday Safari.
